I joined Homescan in August and at first, I thought it would be a lot of fun. Kind of like playing grocery checker. It sounded like a pretty good deal too, especially when you look at the prizes you can earn.
When I looked at the points needed for the prizes, it seemed kind of steep. I wasn't really thrilled by the fact that you get the same amount of points every week for sending a report, no matter how much you scan. Then I told myself, "Oh, Well, I shop anyway, no big deal. I'm still going to get a prize for something I have to do anyway."
Well it's now nearing the end of May and to be honest, in the last few months, I haven't been very good about scanning. I don't really care to grocery shop and I like putting it all away even less. Taking the time to scan it all and entering prices for several of the stores seems so tedious. It really makes the whole process even more of a pain than usual.
Soooooo....................
I think I am going to tell Homescan that they can have their scanner back and thanks, but no thanks. I'm not enjoying it and it's not worth the trouble. Has anybody else tried this company? Did you like it? What are your thoughts?

It is sort of fun, but I could see how it would get on your nerves after a while. As to the rewards, I can't say yet, but even with my scanner not working I have racked up some points answering the surveys.
I promised myself that I would give it another try when I get the new scanner. I will say that they were very helpful when I called about the scanner. They didn't try to say that it was me, not them. We tried a few things and they said just to send it in. There was no hour long convo trying to tell me to try this, that, or acting like I was an idiot.
So, I got really lazy about it and they asked for their scanner back and I got lazy about sending it back and they got nasty and ...... yadda, yadda, yadda. I finally mailed the thing back to them a really long time later and haven't heard a squeak from them since then.
And in all the time I did scan, I didn't get a darn thing out of it. What a cheat!
I kinda liked it, but the amount of points for a prize was ridiculous.
It is a little trouble, I know.
I am on the Neilsen net panel now though.
Maybe I can win something for my participation, huh, LOL.
Between scanning purchases, doing surveys, and getting bonus points for transmitting every week, our household has made about $150 with them over the last couple of years.
You can't get rich with them, that's for sure. ;o)
But I like having my opinions on products heard, so I make sure that I scan products that I feel strongly about, which work acceptionally well, or that we (as a family) enjoy using a lot.
Also, when I show them that I buy large ticket items only when they're on sale or with a rebate it lets retailers know that they should have more/better sales/rebates if they want to move more stock. ;o)
I found that if I take the scanner with me and scan as I put the item in my shopping cart, I do better with it.
I am going to open that box and give it a try. I don't remember getting anything from it last time, so if they are offering rewards now, it may be worth it. I did it before for nothing.
Gwen S., I hope you enjoy Homescan. They seem really nice.
Lera, it doesn't look like I'm going to get anything out of it either, because I really think I'm gonna quit.
j r, I'm sure there are people out there who enjoy it. I guess I'm just more into instant gratification. Or at least something that adds up faster. LOL
DJ B, It sounds like you are having fun with Homescan. I'm glad that you are enjoying it.
Flit, I don't think I could get my kids to slow down long enough to scan anything.
Nana, you are doing better than I have.
Danielle, I think your experience kind of mirrors mine or vice-versa. ;-(
Michelle W, I'm laughing as I picture you chasing your husband and a bag of groceries out the door with the scanner in your hand.
Donna, I hope I didn't ruin it for you. Maybe you should give it a chance before you take my word for it. I'd hate to think that you missed out on something because of me.
Tammy, I'm surprised that they haven't called you yet to see if you've received it. They did with me. And if I miss a couple of weeks, they call me or send me a card.
Lisa, I like My Points too, I've been a member for about 4 or 5 years. I usually read the e-mails and visit the sights. I seldom buy anything and I still get to cash out a couple times a year.
It's tedious and way too much work for the paltry rewards. I've been doing it for a year and finally earned enough points to get something non-lame. Well, semi-lame.
Than I had serious issues... Now not with them... but my computer... We were with out internet service for about a month....
So I returned it...
I loved it though... some weeks I would get busy with life or traveling that I could not scan... Now traveling would be the unexpected traveling...
What made it very easy for me, and it was mentioned already...
I took it everywhere I went... That way when I was shopping I could scan it right than and there, and if I used a coupon, or a sale or whatever to make it cheaper I had it right than and there, and I would not forget later.
Try that especially with grocery shopping, and if you use coupons... That way when you get home all you have to do is put them away... Versus scanning and putting them away...
Hope that helps..
I have now also finally accepted this to my "Everything" group, sorry for any delays...
But please be patient... As of right now I still had 3925 pieces or so to accept in to the group. :o)
It sounds very interesting. If someone can send me a link to my mail
