Where Do We Get Our Self Worth

Hi, Hazel. I'd like to see you deepen your article - you've got a good beginning. Do you differentiate between ego-self esteem and Godself-esteem? Just curious.

Hazel, I agree. You have a potentially really good topic to expand upon. You can take your own life experiences and build from there. In my opinion, self worth is who we are at the core. It's the part of us that stays from birth to death because it's how we are raised, how we are esteemed, how we see the world. It's cummulative as well and becomes more defined from an early age on.

When I was a child my mother did a an excellent job raising her three girls. She had this enormous amount of emotional and mental strength; but I didn't start to value myself until I was a older. When you are youngwoman and you want a man to love you, to pick you for him, and he doesn't and after so many times of not being chosen you either keep putting yourself out there, or you look at yourself differently and decide what you will and will not take, and if you are wise you learn when the love isn't healthy to just walk way, at least I did.

I think that women do struggle more than men with self-worth, but that's probably because guys generally think that they are the best. God's gift to women and all that. Pretty and smart girls struggle with self-worth because they feel like that's why they are worthy. I've seen this in close friends who feel that if they aren't looking amazing or being the "smart one" they will lose their worth in society. We need to teach our young women that they are worthy because they are loved by God, just because they were born. Everyone needs to know that people would value them if their looks got destroyed or their brain power began to lack. Encourage someone, you'll get more out of it than you think.

Self worth? Why are we valueable, or to Whom are we valueable?
Well I think that Self- worth is cultivated by ones family especially by parents when you are young, but what if a person was unfortunate enough to grow up in a family where they weren't cared for? Then Where does it come from. I my opinion it takes a strong person to come out of a situation like that and actually feel like they have value to society. Often people get there self worth form knowing that there are people around them that love them and support what they are doing.
But People will Fail you. Then What.

The source of the greatest Love and support That a person can find that will give them Value, comes form God.
Just Think about this.
God Loves Each and every one of us so much that He sent his only beloved Son to Die for our imperfections/ sins.
This God Did not wait till we decided to ask him for Help .
God is with us from the time of our conception till the time our death.
He has a purpose for each and every one of us, but often we are to blind to see it.
And even though we mess up and fail he still loves us more than we can imagen.
If that should not give a person self - Worth I don't know what should.


God the Creator of the Universe Loves us, has a purpose for our life, and Gave His only Son So that we ( if we accept / beleive on Him) Can spend eternity in heaven with Him.

You are Loved, even when it seems like the whole world is against you.

I don't think it's just women, having been married to two abusive men (and divorced them), who really didn't have enough self esteem even to treat a woman with respect. I also think it comes from how we are raised. If you know that you're loved, cared about and can always count on those who raised you, no matter what, then you self-esteem should be a lot better than those (male or female), who grew up in much worse situations.
I too, wish you'd add on to this article, it's a great topic and can be taken further.
