I remember the summer that I was turning 7. My parents took me to the local fair and that summer I was finally tall enough to ride the Tilt-a-Whirl.
I can still remember the thrill of spinning around and around and around, feeling so out-of-control, but at the same time, so safe because I was in the little car with my daddy. I remember looking up at him and saying, "Daddy, this is so cool! Can we ride it again?"
Our fair is going on this week and I took my 7 year old daughter Monday night. She too, was finally tall enough to ride the Tilt-a-Whirl this year and I loved watching her little face light up with glee as the car began to spin faster and faster.
And then the moment that made me cry. She leaned over to me and said, "Mommy, this is such a cool ride. Can we do it again?" It still amazes me sometimes how much she is a carbon copy of myself at her age, and at the same time, she is completly her own person.
Now if I can just convince her to get her ears pierced. I did that when I was 7 too.

The Tilt-a-Whirl is made (or at least was originally) in Faribault, Minnesota! (home to my dad... :-))
My girls are now 17 and 18 and we still sneak out and make some memories whenever we can!
