OLD FASHIONED HOREHOUND CANDY FOR SORE THROAT
Horehound is the ingredient in this old fashioned hard candy that Grandma used to make.
I’ll include the recipe so you can make it yourself! It’s good for a sore throat as it helps relax and soot
he the throat muscles, while clearing the lungs of mucus.
Recipe:
Put 1-2 cups of fresh horehound leaves in a pot with 4 cups of water. Slowly bring it to a boil; then let it simmer for 15 minutes.
Remove the pot from the stove, strain out the horehound. Add 3 cups brown sugar and 3 cups granulated white sugar, and stir with a wooden spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Put the pot back on the stove, bring the styrup to a boil, then remove it from the heat.
Pour your herbal batter into a greased 9x13” baking pan. As soon as the candy hardens, break it into bite-sized pieces and wrap each piece in waxed paper.
If you really wanted to be adventurous, you could try pouring into lozenge molds. Work quick!
Take lozenges as needed for sore throat.
**As with any herbal or natural remedy, please test for allergies!
