Ok, we got our fence. Yesterday I was on the phone, faxing and emailing my elected Senators in Washington, DC (Shummer and Clinton) telling them I opposed the Ag. Bill being attached to the fence resolution, and wanted the fence built, work place enforcement, and strong interior enforcement that led to large numbers of deportations. If you think this does not work, I offer this. Both Hilliary and Shummer had voted not to close debate the night before. Yet, with OUR PRESSURE, they switched sides and VOTED FOR THE FENCE...here's the list of those who SWITCHED SIDES.
GIVE THEM ALL A CALL and THANK THEM for seeing the light.
You've got to take some credit for helping all of these feel the heat -- and getting out of the frying pan.

I only hope that the Mexicans can rise up, scream and yell at their government to get better economic conditions. "We the people of the United States..." god. doesnt that phrase make you want to stand up by itself. I believe us leading by example has a greater impact on people demanding better from their governments worldwide. Just hope that people hear of examples such as yours.
Might be some Mexicans belief they are not "sneaking" into Texas,Arizona, New Mexico, California, but returning home. Just a fact, another period of American history lost to those who are unwilling to look inwardly, and maybe accept that the Mexican American War was seen historically as a war of aggression. As Americans we are not equipped to see ourselves as less than heroic and good. Don't get me wrong, by enlarge we are; But 150 years in the scheme of recorded history is but a grain of sand; Not too long ago, we took Mexico and humiliated them in the name of manifest destiny. Conversly, I personally don't need illegals pressuring American poor and working classes out of jobs, health care and all the additional burdens that come with yet another level of needy people. I am conflicted.
And dont Forget that Cortes and the Spanish invaded the area of Mexico and conquered the Aztec's. The aztec's controlled the area of Mexico. This argument of some illegal aliens saying they are only going home and you may have seen some holding signs saying Europeans go home. Mexican history has over 500 years of spanish influence.
In those days the border area was as sparsely populated as the rest of the land and nobody wanted it. Latter day Mexican protestations to the contrary are just bs.
But albeit you listen to your hero Rush Limbaugh, he distorts names. themes and issues, could be his drug problem. But Porgie is on your team, I don't get why you call her a tx and spend liberal. Incidently, like most southern poor Republicans you voted against your best interest, and you know why. but look where your team took us, behind the proverbial 8 ball. read carefully and don't try spelling NY Jewish last names, not in your nature, isn't easier to simply distort i.e Porkie, it's Nelso c from above the mason-Dixie line :)
Who do you think washes all those dishes and flips all those burgers and takes out all that trash for minimum wage (or less) so that everyone else can stuff their fat faces with so much food, at REALLY cheap prices...
As for all the uneducated illegal immigrants that we don't need.....LOL....we'll see what kind of service he receives after the "mass exodus and deportations" begin.
Just as soon as the Republicans raise taxes to pay for their extremely ludicrous budget and we have to pay more for food AND businesses who rely on minimum wage labor go under....we'll see how well this works out....
As for my view - before Porgie descends to call me his normal variety of insulting adjectives: I support security, I support human rights, I support accountability, I support any Immigration Plan that makes sense and does not hurt us or them to the point of going hungry.
I support deporting criminals. I support treating them as terrorists - especially gangs and drug dealers - NO MATTER what race or WHERE they are born.
You support putting up straw men arguements to justify Amnesty for most if not all of the 12 million illegals already here, support red herring arguements to legalize a Guest Worker Program that would keep the flow of people coming to America.
1. As I have pointed out, a $20 per year increase in the cost of our produce (on a per family basis) that was dedicated over to wages would see the wages paid to those who harvest our produce TRIPLED. Instead, you try to paint this horrid picture that without illegals, the price of our produce would SKYROCKET, when in reality it just isn't so.
2. You tell this horrid stories of our produce ROTTING in the fields, and yes there is some of that going on, but lets tell the truth. Those crops are rotting in our fields because many migrants (illegals) are no longer willing to work in the fields at the wages being offered, choosing instead to turn to GREENER FIELDS such as the construction industry. The Ag Industry all told in America employs right at 3 million people. of that, 58 percent are here in America LEGALLY, either as citizens, or on some kind of a Visa. In short, we currently employ in the Ag industry about 1.2 million illegals. We have over EIGHT MILLION ILLEGALS in the country right now, and it is estimated that half of those originally were migrant FARM WORKERS. Now, because millions of them have come here, worked the fields, then opted into other sectors of our economy, we have people like Diane Feinstein trying to convince us we need another batch of them for the Ag Industry.
I have a better idea....how about if we track down those illegals that were originally allowed in under a temporary Visa to work the fields, and give them a choice of returning to Ag Work, of leaving America immediately. No Amnesty, no citizen rights.
While we are at it, lets be honest Jackie...you also believe those ALREADY HERE illegally should be (from your perspective) treated fairly, and a part of that fair treatment would include (in addition to being allowed to stay here), family reunification, by allowing those here already to bring their families to America. Statistics tell us, that this chain Migration would add another EIGHTEEN MILLION people into America in the next five years. (That is a conservative number, base on the low ball figure of 12 million illegal aliens now in America...if on the oher hand as many now suspect the number is close to 20 million, that number would approach 40 million people.)
I've pointed out before, and will point it out here...you cannot grant these illegals the things they want, and BE FAIR TO AMERICANS. It's and either or proposition. You grant Amnesty, you hurt Americans in the lower and middle class, illegals being here presently are hurting those people, lowering their wages, and it amazes me, that people like you think it's ok to LOWER OUR WAGES, steal jobs from American workers.
I live in New York, and contrary to what Mayor Bloomberg believes, we can do just fine without illegals. Dinner out, tickets to a play and a room for the night runs my wife and I around $750.00 for and evening out. Don't tell me the business owners can't afford to pay REAL WAGES to LEGAL CITIZENS, I know better...they just don't want to.
Let's talk simple numbers. Day laborers around here hire out at $100 a day, and most of those who hire them work them from 7 in the AM until around 6:30 at night, so when you figure a 11 1/2 hour work day for $100 doing construction, it is rediculous. No way can you hire and American for those wages here in New York to do Construction work...especially not if you are abiding by the laws surrounding over time, as that 11.5 hour day would turn into 13.25 hours of pay....even at a rate of $15.00 per hour, it would cost and HONEST Contractor almost $200.
What I cannot believe, is that so many Americans think it is fine if these illegals come into America, and steal our jobs by DRIVING DOWN wage rates.
People may argue that the United States puts it nose too much in other countries affairs, but in almost each case in an issue of stopping opression. Do we make mistakes as a nation?, absolutely, Do we have a duty to improve? Yes.
Each of us in the United States has been born into a country where the borders have not changed. Unless you consider Alaska and Hawaii being added to the Union a change in borders. The same can be said for the people of Mexico. Currently, people going hungry in Mexico and not being able to find work in their own country is the problem that needs to be remedied, not people bringing up history to justify breaking a nation's laws.
BTW.. I stated in my post that Mexico was invaded by the spanish and I know enough geography to know Spain in in Europe. So i am not sure what the misunderstanding here was.
Election day is almost here, and I know that a lot of people are extremely fed up and pi$$ed off at some of the people currently in office and are looking for change. However, be extremely careful when you vote, and be sure that you are not voting for a candidate that supports amnesty/citizenship for the millions of illegal invaders in our country.
If a candidate mentions comprehensive immigration reform and/or support for a guest worker program--it will mean amnesty/citizenship. Please investigate your candidates' opinions/goals on illegal immigration before you vote!! Don't vote strictly by party lines, vote on the candidate's plans/goals/opinions regarding illegal immigration.
If all of those illegal immigrants are given amnesty/citizenship--and they then are able to bring over immediate family members--the USA as we know and love it, will be changed forever. We will be turned into a third world country-- the economy and wages will be depressed forever, and our resources/social services/schools/healthcare systems will become over-extended failures. US citizens will face increased problems in trying to obtain decent jobs. In addition, your taxes will increase--as the illegals will be eligible for MORE social benefits (welfare, food stamps, WIC, low-income housing, etc.)--once they receive citizenship!!!
Please go to this Lou Dobbs site, on the right side of the screen you will see the headings below. Please look up to see how senators voted on illegal immigration issues. Please also send a message to congress stating--No amnesty/citizenship, revise the 14th Amendment (no more anchor babies), and enforce our current immigration laws.

Here are some videos/sites that I definitely recommend to state on top of all of the immigration news.
Aztlan/Reconquista video----The belief by groups such as La Raza ("the race"), Mecha, Maldef, Brown Berets, etc.--that they are going to take back US territory that formerly belonged to Mexico.

A couple things on that whole supply thing.
1. Supply almsot always follows demand. IE, Stores did not open up assuming 12-15 million illegals were going to come here, but instead openned to supply their needs. WE can all agree that most of the illegals are of Latin descent, and most of those from Mexico.
Now, think on this for a nanosecond, and you can understand why La Raza and many Hispanic groups want these illegals made legal. First, their numbers give Hispanic a FALSE political clout. More importantly, these illegals are also driving the upward gains of those Hispanics here legally...if the illegals go, the stores openned to cater to them are going to close, and as they close, those Hispanics who have openned up businesses that depend on the traffic into their shops that illegals provide are going to go out of business. Let's say that illegals account for forty percent of traffic into a store....I do not know very many small businesses that can survive when 40 percent of their customer base dissappars.
So in short, much fo the concern you see for illegals within the Hispanic communities is driven by selfish personal reasons, rather than a true concern for illegals.
2. On filling jobs...first, we have a lot of Americans that have been driven out of jobs, using Construction as just one example. When the poultry plant in Georgia lost 70 percent of their employees, it did not go out of business, had no problems replacing staff with legal residences, but they did have to raise their wages. Secondly, because of illegals, overtime is at and all time low for America....a lot of those jobs would be absorbed through restoring overtime hours to existing workers.
We the people, no the elected representatives and special interests have always and through date, exploit the current events and pass laws that then are interpreted by you and many others as gospel, "well Martha it's a the law" I can hear it now at Sunday dinner discussions all over the US. Let me bring up Dread Scott, and the "escaped slave laws in the antibellum US. Agai, Geoffrey, I suppose you think we went to Iraq to liberate the people alone? Where were we in Uganda and now the where are we in the Sudan. It's too simplistic and convenient to state, hell with the past, what it is now counts..Lame I say..I am shamefully in agreement lately with the Pat Buchanan, yes support the President, the troops, but get out, close the borders and put your helmets on....But Geoffrey, history is everything
What part of history are you saying I am blowing off?
Its pretty arrogrant of you to assume you know my positions on a situation as complex as Iraq.. There were many reason the United states went into Iraq, the genocide wasnt even the main reason for war.
16 intelligence agencies from multiple countries all believed that Sadam was in the process of building a nuclear bomb. There were already reports that Sadam was issuing 25,000 dollar checks ot the families of suicide bombers. And he was believed to represent a clear threat to the United States. The debacle that is Iraq now.. is a new problem that formed after the fall of the Iraqi government.
Here is a link to a great story about why we went to war in Iraq. Written by someone working for the Clinton administration in the wall street journal.
http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007540
From this story, the Germans whom thought Iraq was only a couple years away from a nuclear bomb.. still didnt want any war.
When it comes to the genocide in Uganda, and Sudan... there are very valide claims.. I think the difficulty comes from governing the sole remaining Super Power without becoming a World Police.
One reason for the founding of the United Nations was to prevent any furthur genocides from occuring as the holocaust during WW2. The United nations has and is continuing to fail the people of the world by not adhereing to its founding principles.
thank you for challenging me Nelson.!!!
Do you think the reconquista movement underway right now to reclaim the southwest
part of the United States has the potential to destory millions of american lives?
Regardless of the debates we can continue to have about past U.S. mistakes, do you currently believe that the United States, the people and children of the southwest are currently threatened by thi radical movement.
Brenda posted some good links..
I am in Massachusetts, we have great diversity, and a bit of an immigration problem, but they usually come to our finer schools and get degrees, stay and become kind of American, for the exception of some African nationals and a few Albanians that rarely speak English, the latins are working and by far doing pretty good. Southwest I don't know, you tell me
Here in Salt Lake City, as it even happend to make it in the video I am linking to you.. Our sheriff has stated that 80% of the felonies commited in our city are of illegal aliens... And the highest crime rate in the State is in Ogden, Utah which has become 70% Hispanic.
I feel ill referring to statisticss that correlate an increase of crime to any demographic... But we use statistics to measure change.. We just can not allow ourselves to be politically correct any more.

Why are you not concerned with the N Koreans, the Chinese the Iranians, al Queda
I believe they pose a more clear and present danger, than a quality of life problem.
The data can be manipulated to stir up your sentiments, get your angst. read Noam Chomsky get "fair and balanced"
There are two types of thought that govern this world, those whom believe in personal responsibility and those that dont. those that dont believe it is someone else's responsibility to cover for the failures of governments and people in general. How in the hell can you effect change if you are always giving hand outs?
You cant...
