I only hope that the Mexicans can rise up, scream and yell at their government to get better economic conditions. "We the people of the United States..." god. doesnt that phrase make you want to stand up by itself. Might be some Mexicans belief they are not "sneaking" into Texas,Arizona, New Mexico, California, but returning home. Just a fact, another period of American history lost to those who are unwilling to look inwardly, and maybe accept that the Mexican American War was seen historically as a war of aggression. Borders change throughout history... and yes usually through war.. Justifying a crime on the basis of where borders use to be is exactly what Islamic Terrorists argue. They argue that since a country was one under Muslim control it needs to be again. This argument does not float.. And the argument of returning home is false... The native indians that were present on this continent before Europeans became aware of it and began colonizing BOTH north america and south america. And from studying American History I think most would agree the indians here were shafted.

And dont Forget that Cortes and the Spanish invaded the area of Mexico and conquered the Aztec's. The aztec's controlled the area of Mexico. This argument of some illegal aliens saying they are only going home and you may have seen some holding signs saying Europeans go home. Mexican history has over 500 years of spanish influence.

Nelson, just for your information, when Mexico owned Texas it was pretty much a vast, uninhabited wasteland. That is why the mexican government invited in people like Stephen F. Austin who brought settlers to Texas and became an impressario through his land grant from Mexico.
In those days the border area was as sparsely populated as the rest of the land and nobody wanted it. Latter day Mexican protestations to the contrary are just bs.

You support putting up straw men arguements to justify Amnesty for most if not all of the 12 million illegals already here, support red herring arguements to legalize a Guest Worker Program that would keep the flow of people coming to America.

1. As I have pointed out, a $20 per year increase in the cost of our produce (on a per family basis) that was dedicated over to wages would see the wages paid to those who harvest our produce TRIPLED. Instead, you try to paint this horrid picture that without illegals, the price of our produce would SKYROCKET, when in reality it just isn't so.

2. You tell this horrid stories of our produce ROTTING in the fields, and yes there is some of that going on, but lets tell the truth. Those crops are rotting in our fields because many migrants (illegals) are no longer willing to work in the fields at the wages being offered, choosing instead to turn to GREENER FIELDS such as the construction industry. The Ag Industry all told in America employs right at 3 million people. of that, 58 percent are here in America LEGALLY, either as citizens, or on some kind of a Visa. In short, we currently employ in the Ag industry about 1.2 million illegals. We have over EIGHT MILLION ILLEGALS in the country right now, and it is estimated that half of those originally were migrant FARM WORKERS. Now, because millions of them have come here, worked the fields, then opted into other sectors of our economy, we have people like Diane Feinstein trying to convince us we need another batch of them for the Ag Industry.

I have a better idea....how about if we track down those illegals that were originally allowed in under a temporary Visa to work the fields, and give them a choice of returning to Ag Work, of leaving America immediately. No Amnesty, no citizen rights.

While we are at it, lets be honest Jackie...you also believe those ALREADY HERE illegally should be (from your perspective) treated fairly, and a part of that fair treatment would include (in addition to being allowed to stay here), family reunification, by allowing those here already to bring their families to America. Statistics tell us, that this chain Migration would add another EIGHTEEN MILLION people into America in the next five years. (That is a conservative number, base on the low ball figure of 12 million illegal aliens now in America...if on the oher hand as many now suspect the number is close to 20 million, that number would approach 40 million people.)

I've pointed out before, and will point it out here...you cannot grant these illegals the things they want, and BE FAIR TO AMERICANS. It's and either or proposition. You grant Amnesty, you hurt Americans in the lower and middle class, illegals being here presently are hurting those people, lowering their wages, and it amazes me, that people like you think it's ok to LOWER OUR WAGES, steal jobs from American workers.

I live in New York, and contrary to what Mayor Bloomberg believes, we can do just fine without illegals. Dinner out, tickets to a play and a room for the night runs my wife and I around $750.00 for and evening out. Nelson. I am a landscaper. If you look at my pictures, you can see a sample of my work. I will not hire illegals, it is against the law, and unfair to American workers. This puts my company at a disadvantage when trying to compete against a company that hires illegals, as they are unable to underbid my quotes....the fewer bids I win, the fewer Americans I can keep working. We cannot just worry about ourselves, but must also worry about those who we have traditionally hired. Is it fair that I have to A) let workers go? or B) Tell them the only way I can keep them working, is if they take SIGNIFICANT PAY CUTS?

Porgie T. I agree. Thank you, I'm also self-employed. My issues are health care costs, and paying myself a living wage. In the mortgage business the hurdles are such that hiring illegals would not work, licensing et cetera. I have friends that own restaurants and contracting businesses, and what urks me is they make statements such as, "I hire illegals because they have a better work ethic than poor Blacks and other unskilled Americans" this argument is a bold face lie. What they really should say is that illegals, "do no get time off, I could cheat them,exploit them, work them to the bone, and I don't have to worry about workmans comp,unemployment, giving them 15 minute coffee breaks, they won't call the labor department and more than likely will go to their hosue and cut the lawn" I beieve we both know this is the real story. Pay a decent wage,buy one Lexus instead of 3 and pay health care costs through the small business resources. Abide by law and register your employees, so if they fal and break their back, they don't die broke, on and on...What else happens which is evident by the rallies all over the country is that these illegals begin to think that they are better than the "lazy" Americans that rather not work..That's scary...that they can be so bold as to spit in the faces of hard working 10 genration Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, "African-Americans that first landed here in 1609, not on Plymouth Rock, but Plymouth Rock landed on them". It's the AgriCorp business that pulls them in; We should promote local agriculture and stop paying our American small farmer to not grow food. Nelson...there is a rather large Construction in this area...they have television commercial on regularly, and the majority of their crews are illegals. I have pictures of them picking up illegals at the day laborer gathering points around here. Yet, try to get ICE to investigate them!

Let's talk simple numbers. Day laborers around here hire out at $100 a day, and most of those who hire them work them from 7 in the AM until around 6:30 at night, so when you figure a 11 1/2 hour work day for $100 doing construction, it is rediculous. No way can you hire and American for those wages here in New York to do Construction work...especially not if you are abiding by the laws surrounding over time, as that 11.5 hour day would turn into 13.25 hours of pay....even at a rate of $15.00 per hour, it would cost and HONEST Contractor almost $200.

What I cannot believe, is that so many Americans think it is fine if these illegals come into America, and steal our jobs by DRIVING DOWN wage rates.

Porgie I;m in solidarity with you. Therefore your argument is that ICE pick up and arrest and fine the the contractors. What would the chain of businesses that promote the illegal immigrant trade then do. there are fast food restaurants that feed them,lumber,hardware,plumbing,electrical companies, all in the construction business, cement companies..Then there is the ever present consumer, like the masses shopping at WALMARTS at the expense of their local mom and pop store, running them out business. Your new home buyer or developer wnats to control costs while getting rich or getting a house cheaper...You are up against an entire wall of enablers...They don't want to loose the illegal worker. Nelson - When did I ever say Borders were NOT changd by the U.S.? It appears that you assumed I said something I didn't. Yes the U.S. has a history of expansion. It's over.. The people of the United states today dont care about growing borders, certain individuals may, but I dont believe the country as a whole does. We want to focus on our country as it is and improve it for all.

People may argue that the United States puts it nose too much in other countries affairs, but in almost each case in an issue of stopping opression. Do we make mistakes as a nation?, absolutely, Do we have a duty to improve? Yes.

Election day is almost here, and I know that a lot of people are extremely fed up and pi$$ed off at some of the people currently in office and are looking for change. However, be extremely careful when you vote, and be sure that you are not voting for a candidate that supports amnesty/citizenship for the millions of illegal invaders in our country.

If a candidate mentions comprehensive immigration reform and/or support for a guest worker program--it will mean amnesty/citizenship. Please investigate your candidates' opinions/goals on illegal immigration before you vote!! If all of those illegal immigrants are given amnesty/citizenship--and they then are able to bring over immediate family members--the USA as we know and love it, will be changed forever. US citizens will face increased problems in trying to obtain decent jobs. In addition, your taxes will increase--as the illegals will be eligible for MORE social benefits (welfare, food stamps, WIC, low-income housing, etc.)--once they receive citizenship!!!

A couple things on that whole supply thing.

1. Supply almsot always follows demand. IE, Stores did not open up assuming 12-15 million illegals were going to come here, but instead openned to supply their needs. WE can all agree that most of the illegals are of Latin descent, and most of those from Mexico.

Now, think on this for a nanosecond, and you can understand why La Raza and many Hispanic groups want these illegals made legal. First, their numbers give Hispanic a FALSE political clout. More importantly, these illegals are also driving the upward gains of those Hispanics here legally...if the illegals go, the stores openned to cater to them are going to close, and as they close, those Hispanics who have openned up businesses that depend on the traffic into their shops that illegals provide are going to go out of business. Let's say that illegals account for forty percent of traffic into a store....I do not know very many small businesses that can survive when 40 percent of their customer base dissappars.

So in short, much fo the concern you see for illegals within the Hispanic communities is driven by selfish personal reasons, rather than a true concern for illegals.

2. On filling jobs...first, we have a lot of Americans that have been driven out of jobs, using Construction as just one example. When the poultry plant in Georgia lost 70 percent of their employees, it did not go out of business, had no problems replacing staff with legal residences, but they did have to raise their wages. Secondly, because of illegals, overtime is at and all time low for America....a lot of those jobs would be absorbed through restoring overtime hours to existing workers.

Geoffrey I apologize as there were several points that I later realized I faulted you for , I was incorrect. However, your dogmatic stand on those laws currently broken has in my humble opinion flaws. You Blow off recent history. in the eternal words of Santayana, "those who do remember the past will be condemend to repeat it. We the US wrote laws to support any action we took regarding countries in our hemisphere as far back as the Monroew Doctrine. Where we threatned Europeans nations with gun boat diplomacy if the interefered with latin American self determinatyion. We do make mistakes as a nation, but i do believe that we are a nation of good intent. Will there be people that we elect to govern us that arent putting the nation ahead of their own aspirations.. yes. History is written by the victorious and justifcations for war are always on the side of being noble. People are generally noble. Filtering through all the false information is never an easy matter and we can only rely on the information presented us. Yes if true. Is there a reconquista? I don't think the children of middle and affluent Americans are in trouble, of all races. The lower and working class Americans are not so lucky. An average unskilled American wants healthcare,minimum wage,unemployment insurance, vacation and sick time; An illegal alien will undermine this everytime, it's proven that illegal workers won't complain,healthcare,well the ER at the city hospital,time off, when they sleeo. Here in Salt Lake City, as it even happend to make it in the video I am linking to you.. Our sheriff has stated that 80% of the felonies commited in our city are of illegal aliens... And the highest crime rate in the State is in Ogden, Utah which has become 70% Hispanic.

I feel ill referring to statisticss that correlate an increase of crime to any demographic... But we use statistics to measure change.. We just can not allow ourselves to be politically correct any more.

I believe crime goes up anytime in influx of poor, desperate confused, and yes dysfunctional,mentally ill,some plain criminal masses move into an area, the displaced,i.e Katrina refugees to Houston, here they were African Americans the other maligned group usually blamed for all the ills of the warm and fuzzy majority.

Noam Chonsky is not fair and balanced..... It comes down to this... Where are your priorities.... A strong United States or a world government. I very concerned about North Koreans, and Irans Nuclear programs....

There are two types of thought that govern this world, those whom believe in personal responsibility and those that dont. those that dont believe it is someone else's responsibility to cover for the failures of governments and people in general. I agree Noam is not "Fair & Balanced", I suggest you read him, so that you can be more fair and balanced. I love the U.S., with all it's faults, no where better. Bottom line. I would die for this country, and if asked to sacrifice my sons in it's defense let it be that the enemy landed on Cape Cod. I am self-employed,no one gives me anything, but "we get by with a little help from my friends".Hoaky maybe. but I wanted to get that out of the way. Libertarian ideals, but Democratic liberalism and a touch of Lincoln republicanism; oh, and not long ago, I too had a poster of CHE in with his French beret hanging on my dorm door. That's American!
