My Poor Son :(

My poor son.  His throat has been hurting all day.  His tonsils are huge, his entire throat is red and he has some white spots.  He doesn't have a fever or any other complaints.  I don't know if I should keep him home from school tommorrow.  I hate to get other kids sick but my son also suffers from bad allergies so I don't know if this could be attributed to that.  Either way, I'll have to take him to the doctor tommorrow, just to rule out Strep Throat.  I hate going to the pediatrician especially this time of year.  If you aren't sick when you get there, you will be by the time you leave.  It's the germiest (Is that a word?) place in the world. 

Does anyone know if this could be strep?

It's possible. I've never had strep throat but I know people who have and they had white spots on their throat. Like you said, it could just be irritated from his allergies.

The white spots definitely mean infection of some sort. It's possible that it could be strep. Mine get sore throats all the time (as well as sinus issues) and usually when we see the white spots it's a bit worse than normal. I hate to drag out to the dr. too this time of year but you will feel better if you have it checked.
I ached horribly when I had strep throat. Not just my throat, but all over. Did you have him gargle with salt water?

it sounds more like tonsilitis to me because when I had it I had white spots, when you have Strep usually your throat is more red.

Thanks for all the advice. I know I had strep when I was little, but I can't remember what it looked like. I think I may have to keep him home tommorrow.

i am not sure lisa, but maybe try to be at the Doctor before they open, that way you will avoid all the germs...

It could be strep... This time of year is so awful for the germs in school and the poor kids have a hard time dealing with it... I hope you son has a speedy recovery!!!

Well, I kept him home from school today. He has a doctor's appointment at 12:15. Now my youngest says his ear hurts! It's that time of the year I guess, ugh.
