Alley Catz 'n' Jammer Kids
Old Grandda wants to take us out
this Friday night. He's got the gout,
but he still longs, despite his pains,
to treat us all at Rolling Lanes.
We order from the wooden booth:
Old Crow for age, root beer for youth;
make sure he's got his baccy there
(cracked corncob pipe munnot go bare)!
Spun cannonball whirls toward a pin
and knocks the spare, "Ag'in! Ag'in!"
'til Grandpa proudly takes his turn:
the ball streaks down the planks to burn
a wicked strike! Two more, no spare:
he's here to win, and doesn't care
that morning after this, he'll groan
with aching muscles, creaking bone.
This night he's king of pins and coal
(the barbecue at swimming hole
was grand indeed), we cheered him on
from hot dogs to the final yawn,
And drank enough root beer to fill
A barrel full, and more to spill!
Such good old-fashioned fun, tonight ÂÂ ÂÂ
we've had a time, the kid's alright.

To keep from getting them in the first place, copy your text from Word and when you paste it in to the Gather publisher, choose the clipboard that says "paste from Word"
Thanks, Sheila, for the breadcrumb trail (cherry pits? ;) and also for the comment!
And Susan too, for the compliment and helpful suggestions -- I will definitely try the "paste from Word" next time. I actually used TextEdit for this, not Word, but maybe it's similar enough? I *have* edited it since I published, but every time I remove the existing ÂÂ sets and repost, new ones appear in different places!
(They will not go out, though I beg and I plead!
It's that "VOOM!" cloud from little cat Z that I need!)

Well done
