The Movies Alone?

I wanted to go out to the movies tonight but when I thought about sitting there alone I lost my nerve.  I have had many friends back home who preferred to go to the movies alone.  They had many friends and in some cases where in a relationships but they preferred to go it alone.  I always felt that it was strange thing to sit in crowded movie theatre alone.  When I think about going to the movies I always feel like it's a companion sport, who else is going to leave the movie to get me my snacks.

 

I decided that it would be best to go to wal-mart tonight instead.  I had a few things I needed to get and my aunt asked me to pick up some large containers of cat food the next time I was there.  She likes the wal-mart prices but she hates the wal-mart atmosphere.

 

I walked around in my usual route, from the deli to the electronic.  I know its not much of Saturday night date but at least it gets me out of the house.  I left the house at 8 and I got back just a little while ago.  I really enjoy pushing the cart around and seeing what is on sale, for some reason I cannot resist a good price on something even I don't need a six pack of tooth brushes.  I hate to admit this but I am always curious about what other people have in their shopping carts.  I always try to figure out what people are going to do with the different items in their shopping carts.  Then there are the people that buy a toaster and car battery?  I think wal-mart is the only place where you can really get those two items in one swing through the store.  Then there is always room for more underwear in there too, you cannot beat wal-mart's prices on that.

{{{Beth}}} Don't worry, hun, you'll make friends soon. I don't think I would have been able to go alone either. That's one reason why I love my kids - I'm never alone (even when I want to be lol).

i have never let going alone stop me from seeing a film at a theater...if you feel awkward, sit on a row where others are already sitting...get your popcorn on the way in so then you are occupied eating instead of being aware of others.....

per your shopping outing,not often,but now n' then i like to toss an item into another's cart and then watch person's expression once they notice something in their cart that they didn't choose...LOL..tossing in a can of oil next to a woman's clothing item is hilarious!...or, for a man, tossing in women's panties next to his hammer....silly,but hey! ya gotta laugh,eh?.......cheers,gayle

Sometimes I like to go to a movie alone, if its one I've been waiting to see and want to 'soak up' by myself. I've never had a problem being by myself, comes from being an only child I guess. But any enjoyment I have is multiplied when someone is enjoying it with me.

I think I'm too co-dependent to alone. I've never actually been ALONE in my entire life. Went from my parent house to a dorm w/ roomie, to an apartment w/ roomies to being married w/ children. Never alone time. I don't think I would know what to do with myself.

Pets are great - they love you no matter what. And when you scold them, they don't say "YOu're the worst mommy ever!" LOL.

talk about tossing an item my grand son sneak in a item and my hubby think I did it and I think he does it, till we get home and he tell us he did it.. he slick,,
now Barb I am trying not to pestured not be a mom or anything,, let me make a call for you,, Hell I will even pay for the movies.. What do you think just friends

Mary, sometimes watching a movie alone at home is the only way I get a movie. I had to watch the 6th sense alone to get that he was dead.

corinne n you kids must be young when they are teens, usually they are with friends and parents are like the plague LOL well until they need a car ride some where

i dont think i could go to the movies on my own. when i first met my daughter first boyfriend i set away from them at the movies by my self and i felt so strange. i like to rent movies make some popcorn for nites on my own and now my cat watches the movies with me LOL

Ever since netflix I haven't been to the movies. I have been alone, I have a weird taste in movies and sometimes I would just go because I wanted to see the movie.

I guess we're all at different points in our lives. I love being alone and almost never am. I would definitely gone by myself though I enjoy seeing movies with other people. I don't mind eating alone at all.

There's nothing wrong with doing stuff alone, in fact, I do it quite often. It helps that
my boyfriend and I are oppoites. I don't want to go fishing or play golf, and he doesn't
want to hang out at cafes and the library. Going it alone is cool.

I plan on going to "Michael Clayton" when it opens on the 10th. I will be going by myself for several reasons: My wife is currently in Canada and she doesn't like that genre even if she were here. The trailers are fascinating.

Since you're in Arizona, I know you'll make friends quickly. We're all friendly here!

LOL, I just bought some Hanes at WalMart on Friday:)

I have often gone to the movies alone. You get to see what you want, don't have to fight over where the best place to sit is, and don't have to share your goodies:) Once the lights go out and you get into the movie, it really doesn't matter!

Gwen, i love hanes! I could just live in them and never need anything else to be comfortable. I think I must have world's largest collection of hanes from wal-mart. I am glad someone else shares in my passion.
One of the main reasons I don't like going to the movies alone is I am afraid of the dark and I need someone to grab a hold of, I know I should not admit that but I don't have to worry about my Arizona friends reading this on gather. :)

Walker, someone mentioned Leah from Sedona a while back and asked if I knew her. I have been to Sedona twice since I moved to Arizona from Maine. The people are much different there than the ones in Phoenix. Do you know Leah too or is the Gather world to big for people to know one another on here?

See I have no problem doing things alone. Might be an age thing too. I'm very comfy in my skin but it took along time to do that.

Stacy, I think your right some people are just so comfy while other spend to much time worrying about what other people will think if they see them. I worry too much about what other people think. :(

I've been to the movies many times by myself, and my husband goes in the early afternon to the movies by himself. We don't always have the same taste in movies

I do a lot of activities alone, including eating out and going to the movies. I do those things with others, too, but I have no problem being by myself (it's a treat!). And I always carry with me something to read, so I can entertain myself wherever I am.

Being active is some way is the place to be so that you are never alone; you always have yourself to entertain yourself. You are a wonder in this world; you are always that, though you might not think of that very often, and that you 'think' should be of interest to you. We need to enjoy the fact of our existence and to find the joy of living by knowing as much as we can about ourselves; we are an unlimited source of mystery and entertainment.
