You read right. Now you're asking what's the catch?
If you write articles or short stories (like I do) or poems (like I occasionally do) then wouldn't it be nice if we were able to get paid for publishing our work?
Well I found a place, on the web, where you can. What's the catch? To be plain and simple, you still have to promote your work.
I found a place on the web that will let you publish (almost) anything, be it short stories, poems, prose, how-to books, photos, videos etc. The way it works is this. The more traffic you generate to your published piece, the more they will (hopefully) spend on advertisements on the site. You get 50% of revenue generated from your published work.
In essence, here's the deal. If you were able to get 500 people to visit the site, and not one of them spent a dime on advertising, you'd get nothing. If however, you got people to the site who spent money, which (COULD) happen, then you'd get 50% of whatever they spent.
The good part of the deal is this. These people pay every month, unlike some places that make you wait for three months.
What is this place? It's TRIOND. Here's the link:

Good luck, good writing,

Im going to read now just have many questions right off the bat just going off what you have said :)
Have a great Friday!
I read the terms and there is no way I would give any publication and all of its affiliates perpetual right to publish my original material wherever and whenever they want hoping to make a few pennies and I strongly recommend no one else do it either. (item 5) supposedly writer retains all copyright, but consider if you want to publish your story in a 'paying market', you would have to market it as a 'reprint' and make considerably less money.
If you have a website that makes you money, and TRIOND operates like a directory and allows a link to your website – this might be worth the investment in time as people will come visit you and you will indeed profit. I'm making a list of such directories for my web launch later this year.
Let me know, how it goes for you – I'm curious, but until I have my website set up in a couple of months, I'm enjoying the Gather community and submitting essays and queries only to paying markets.
FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LIKE THE FINE PRINT: Here's the part to read.

To be honest I'm a bit wary of them after reading what Perle wrote and because there are other options that are less binding.
But Ernie, thank you for thinking of us.
