Hm.. this is annoying.
Apparently, someone has 'flagged' my article and left a one rating.
Why? Who the heck knows? It's a poem. It doesn't involve sex, drugs, or bad language. When one of my stories DOES involve those things, I flag it myself. I probably flag more of my own things than I should just to be safe and warn anyone that might be offended.
Yet here I have a poem sitting with a one rating that's been 'flagged'. Grrr. There should be some accountablity for rating and reporting, shouldn't there?
Does this happen often?

People are just weird about things sometimes I guess.
Laura, I'm with you. It pisses me off that some of the better stuff out there is getting lower ratings. I think the vote a gatherite gives and article should appear next to their picture. That said, I will explain myself a bit: I tend to give 8's and 9's because there is a lot of great stuff out there, but perfection is unattainable... better is always within our grasp.
It happens all the time. It means you've struck a chord...though a discordant one. The gnomes that do these drive-by 1's ratings have no life...they really have nothing better to do...like kids throwing rocks at stained glass art...quickly peddling away as to not be detected. It means you've written something that's worthy of their' pettiness. It'a a complement, in fact. You have received their' disapproval...which translate into...what you wrote must be pretty darn good. If you get a 10 rating from this crowd...THAN, you need to worry and go see a therapist...because you must be as crazy as they are.
Don't worry about it, Laura, everyone is aware of their' shenanigans. When I see an article with a 1 rating I race to it, because, it's got to be good.

My suggestions is that the rating capability be accessible only to those who leave a comment. No comment, no rating ability.
Flagging is often quite unjustified, and I've had flags removed by the management.
Moderation is another story. Gather's larger groups have designated "moderators."
Gather "Essentials" groups are an example. These have the largest exposure to readers.
If your point of view isn't in line with Gather's editors' and/or a designated moderator's , no articles you submit will be allowed to appear on those groups.
This relates most to the political issues. Gather's bias resembles Fox News'. "Fair and balanced" It is reflected in the Gather editorals and many of its choices of books and authors it selects to feature.
On gather,as in the corporate media, alternative views to the corporate opinion receive small exposure.
AND you have gotten lots of comments
so ner-ner-ta-ner-ner to the phantom flagger!!
Meanwhile we can take it in our stride as a special honor. However, it is good that you highlighted this issue. We now know that such abuses happen for no apparent reason.
Some people do it for spite. I have had several articles flagged in the past Laura, and generally they are lifted quickly. If not, then there may be some question concerning some kind of content in the thread that needs to be discussed.
I see that your article is unflagged now, that is good.
Keep doing what you enjoy doing, and hopefully the bullies will tire at some point.
