Legendary filmmaker John Sayles is an independent pioneer in the cinematic landscape.  He makes movies about small town struggles with big social themes such as "Matewan" "Passion Fish," and "Sunshine State."

His newest film, "Honeydripper," now out on DVD, is a Deep South fable about the beginnings of civil rights and rock 'n roll.

i don't think that i have seen any of his films, but i do support the independent film industry if it is a movie that i am interested in seeing

I haven't heard of him. I have found that I much prefer watching many of the independent films vs the "blockbusters. The independents seem more willing to take risks and generally tell a much better story:-)

I did see Passion Fish and enjoyed it, but I can't say I've followed the director's career. Luckily, Netflix let's you search on directors...

I would see it just for the scene when he opens the guitar case and sees an electric guitar. That would be on par with being a fly on the wall when Washington was inaugurated or watching Booker T. Washington as he opened his first book.

I adored Passion Fish.....I mean Passion Fish blew my mind. I went on and on and on days after seeing Passion Fish. The symbolism blew my mind.

For those of us who fish, adore fishing and all things related to fishing we got Passion fish on a different scale.

Honeydrippers........What's that? A Robert Plant- Led Zepplin song name? A river like Styx?

Seriously, for those of us who are and have been countrified and know what a Honeydripper really is, this movie can only be da S*&@ if it came from Mr Sayles.
