Four and a half years after the U.S. invasion, Iraq is still a long way from the democratic ideal Americans once envisioned. A large, but seldom told part of that story is the exodus of Iraq's professional class.
Among them are three Iraqi scholars -- an archaeologist, an English professor, and a political scientist -- who have fled Iraq, trying to start a new life while looking over their shoulders at what has become of their country.
Listen to an On Point discussion with them about the country they left behind.
What do you make of the exodus of Iraq's professional class? Do you believe Iraq can succeed without them? How do you think Iraq's brain drain will affect its future?

I doubt that it's just the professionals who are fleeing, however, I would think a lot of just plain rich folks have scrammed as well. If you had money to escape such an environment, wouldn't you leave?
I don't think anyone knows what they will do in a situation of extreme physical and moral danger until the moment comes, but I'm pretty sure that history's real heros would never judge the actions of another, nor countenance the kind of judgement the caller was making.
