I am with Ja'Nelle i have no real idea what you are talking about. However I don't believe that freedom of speech/press will ever get to the point of having to go off shore to get the truth. If anything I think some media outlets are too careless in what they publish, hurting the reader, the subjects and our over all country. Not all just some.

Thanks Ja'nelle, I wish there was a condensed version I could quickly get into, but basically because of changes at the FCC after Bush took office, our free press has been bought by big corporations, who decide what they publish, and show, and that's why all you see is Brittany and OJ, and the like, instead of investigative reporting, which seems to have died, in the normal channels, and you have to find it online, or not at all.

They think they are so 'cool' because Liberal radio has not been able to compete with them ... a sad commentary about all of that is that Liberal radio will never do very well because the Liberal audience does not exist, in that Liberals by their very nature are easy going and would never listen to programing so hate filled and disingenuous ... besides, we can think for ourselves, we do not need a self proclaimed 'authority' to tell us how to think like the Right does.

As for the truth in media, one MUST go further Left than the Right to get away from the lies by the liars ... bias towards truth is a commendable thing for Liberals ... the conservative side that borders on the extreme, as expressed by a few here, are really disgusted by truth seekers, that being so foreign to them and their hating anything and anyone not just like them.

I sort of suspect one person for it all ... what a creep !

You I am afraid are the one misinformed. Most of the media happens to be liberal and most of the reporters too. Fox can harly be called news as it is broadcast from talking points. It is as hard right as you can get. On the hard left you have people like Olberman. The fact is that both parties sides have their hate spewers and we all lost because you cannot trust either one. That is why the truth usually is found in between the two

I just noticed my article is now UNflagged ... I had sent a note to Gather about it earlier and mentioned what and who was most likely involved ... maybe they spoke with the 'person' ... I know they take a dim view of unwarranted malicious flagging.

MDP, no, I am not the one misinformed ... yes, Olberman is a bit of a Left winger ... but over on CNN you have this Glenn Beck guy who acts like he is on FAUX ... but that is all beside the point in that I also watch many documentaries here and there and of them I find the PBS show FrontLine to be "Liberal" in that it digs up and presents the real truth, one of the very few that do ... and PBS is nowhere near as Liberal as it used to be and still wants to be known as. There is huge corporate interest that donates large sums of money to them ... it seems that there are often some "strings" attached.

But the farthest Left that I go would probably be LINK and FSTV (Free Speech TeleVision) where some documentaries are excellent as is always Democracy Now with Amy Goodman.

But I just happen to know personally enough RightWing Christian types that watch only FAUX as they believe only what they are told there ... and of course listen to the radio talk shows which are almost all far right.

I do honor and respect anyone that seeks a balance in between the extremes as you say that you do ... but the problem as I see it is that your Left is nowhere near far enough Left to make up a meaningful balance ... and I honestly believe that the Left is far more truthful than is the Right when it comes to our media ... and I do NOT at all include the so-called MSM in that Left you have to go to much further Left sources than them to get a good balance ... and of course 'good' is only relative in 'that' sense because to me good would be the truth in most all things, not some mix of false and true.

Bush's appointee to the FCC, upon taking office, changed the requirements of how many outlets in a given market a company could own. That allowed huge corporations to buy out mom and pop television, print and radio markets, and led to what we now call the corporate media. We have no free press, with a few exceptions, and the messages that get out, unless there's enough Buzz from other sources (Internet, etc.,) that they can't ignore it, is entertainment news, on the level of Brittany, OJ, and the like. Investigative reporting is dead in this country, anywhere but the Internet, in the main. Rupert Murdoch, Chairman of News Corp, keeps all his offerings conservative, with no really liberal contender, anymore. Even that bastion of the left, The New York times, is schizophrenic anymore, and seems to fly from the extreme right (the fake war critic converts that published before Petraeus's testimony), to the extreme left (General Betray us), and I assume there's some infighting there between corporate and editorial forces, but we know who wins those fights. All in all, w have no free press, and the result is neither left nor right, but fare to put the American public to sleep over. That is why I publish things from the web. It's the only source doing constant investigative reporting, and the only place that seems uncensored for the main part. Others may disagree, but just look at your papers, and see what page important taxpayer items are listed on, and it becomes clear. Anything important goes to back pages all the time, and the front ones stick to mildly interesting fluff.

Ron, you are so correct in all of that ! I have no doubt that our young people that are entering the journalism schools are still believing that old line about the free press being our source of truth and liberty ... but when it comes right down to it, all of those folks have to answer to editors who answer to owners ... and us little people are not the owners.

By the time a person gets to a level where they are ALLOWED to make a difference in this world, they have been already BOUGHT OUT by the salaries they receive (and probably OTHER things held over their heads by then)... the amount of money that say the evening news anchors receive is obscene IMnsHO.
