I attended a religious retreat yesterday, the annual Lenten lecture and discussion that my church puts on. Note that this is actually designated a "Lenten" retreat, and we are observant Eastern Orthodox Christians.
For coffee hour, we had platters of pastries, home made as well as bakery bought, donuts, and piles of fresh strawberries and grapes.
For lunch we had three kinds of meatless soup (it's Lent, after all!!), hunks of dark pumpernickel and seeded rye crusty bread, and enough home made apple pies that two were left over.
When we surveyed the tables, we shrugged, smiled, loaded up our plates and bowls, and said, "More is more!"
It's surely not what the Orthodox monks on Mt. Athos are eating during Lent, but appreciating the tastes of life with a sense of enthusiasm is part of being a worshipful human being, in my opinion. After all, the word "enthusiasm" comes from two Greek words meaning "in" and "God" -- essentially, filled with God.
But it's got me to wondering. What's your personality type?
Are you:
More is more?
Less is more?
or
Enough is enough?
