Driving home wasn't easy. Leaving Kurt behind was wrong, but there was no other option. His DNA spread about the carpet would link him to the crime scene and we'd be next. 'Best to let them think he was in on a drug deal gone badly' I guessed. This caused my mind to continue wondering why my plan went down the way it did, unexpected and irrepressible. ‘But I guess once you step over that fine line, there's no going back,' I thought to myself.
I looked down at my watch, 1:00pm. I began trying to figure out how I'd greet my wife after witnessing some rather traumatic scenes earlier. The stress level was causing my blood pressure to rise, resulting in a sweaty repercussion. Not good. My wife would speculate if all that supposed moving in Charlie's garage was the reason behind me sweating profusely. She already knows I'm not that active, rather taking my time slowly or letting Charlie do most of the heavy lifting. I prefer using my brain over brawn, always been like that. My wife would question my true actions.
The black duffle bag full of cash stared up at me, sparking up a visual picture of how many ways this money should be spent and what I'd start with first. A brand spanking new home in another state, a vacation on some remote island, or a two week cruise wherever, I didn't give a rats ass, all I wanted to do is begin a new lifestyle. Of course I'd put a fair amount of it away. Some in the bank I guessed, the rest hidden well. But before all this can start, my wife needed to be appraised of my recent actions.
My short ride back was harrowing, the thought overwhelming me on how I'd break this news to my wife. How would she take it? She's going to want to keep the cash. But she's not going to approve of how my plan brought this large amount of money in my lap. Yet, I have to tell her, there's no way around it unless I'd thought she was considered a liability like Charlie and Lou. Especially Lou. He continues to worry me. If I think he's going to keep his mouth shut and not tell his wife, I'm just as dumb as him.
As I pulled in the driveway, Sharon was making her way towards the back of the house, having just walked out of our garage. She looked hot in her tight blue jeans, and white jersey. Her hair was in a pony tail and continued swaying left and right as she made her way to the back gate. I beeped the horn; she turned and our eyes met as I waved for her come to me. She pointed back with a one minute gesture, confirming my intentions but letting me know she needed to do something first. I then decided to get out of the car and meet up with her. I need to be extra nice to Sharon before I drop this major family and life change on her. Today would alter everything we ever worked for, because now things would be different.
"Honey, you got a minute, we need to talk," I said, as I followed her into our backyard. She turned back at me and gave me a look that went right to my soul. "Where have you been, I thought you were only going to be gone an hour or so, you know we had an appointment with our accountant at 1:00pm." She snapped at me, walking past without looking in my direction. Sharon was upset that I'd forgotten our meeting with the Accountant.
"I'm sorry," I sighed. "But something happened and we need to sit down and..." But before I could finish my sentence she told me we needed to get going. That's when I grabbed hold of her arms stopping her in her tracks.
"Listen to me Sharon, I came into a large amount of cash, trust me we can reschedule. Besides, we're now in a whole different tax bracket. Our accountant can wait." I knew that would get her attention.
Sharon followed me inside and we sat down together on the living room sofa. She was interested in hearing what I had to say, I could see it on her face, the expression of curiosity beamed off her as she waited for me to tell it all. "Sharon, you know I help my cousin out, and sometimes I do collections..." Again I was interupted.
"Collections, you never told me you do collections," Sharon remarked, looking at me confused. "I know you've helped him with his business, but I...." My turn to interrupt came and I did it swiftly. "Yes and today I happened upon a large duffle bag full of money Sharon, at least a hundred grand." I said.
"How much?" she said.
"Enough so you can get pregnant through IVF, buy a new home, and sail across the seas if you want."
"Someone owns that Money Frankie," she said getting up as she now started to pace back and forth. I could tell she was getting nervous.
"I took it from a guy who owed my cousin some money, except people started shooting and I managed to get more than originally planned." I waited for a response, I knew it was coming.
"Frankie, are you freaking crazy, someone's going to come for it. You need to go bring it back." Sharon finished talking, running to the bedroom. I heard the door slam shut and the lock click. I knew she wouldn't take it easy. Somehow I would have to convince her that it would be ok. Nobody is going to come for the money. I covered all my tracks. My plan was not perfect, but it was successful. I now had two problems. The first could be dealt with. I would talk to Lou and Charlie, let them know after a month or so, after everything cools down, we can split the money and go our separate ways. That's if they don't screw things up beforehand. And second, my wife. I'd have to win her over on the belief that we could walk away unscathed if she would just follow my advice and allow me to handle this. Both of these situations could get worse. I need to weigh my options. Again, my plan may need to be revised.
To be continued.

rated 10.
Great, Charles. Can't wait for the next installment.
Shannon thanks for reading as well!!
If you could put the links to the other chapters in each, it might be easier for people to go from the first to last, Charles.
Eventually, after a couple years of dating, we married and bought a house where we grew up, Long Island. She wanted to be close to the NYC because she was finishing her college studies at St Johns University, and her Job was in Nassau County. Not a problem for me, as long as Virginia was happy, I was too.Not a problem for me, as long as Virginia was happy, I was too.
Where did Sharon come from?
Good suspicion from former chapters you've created regarding his accomplices!
Good suspicion from Frankie created from other chapters regarding his accomplices.
I hate pointing that out, because the story is so good. I love the characters and the voice.
