It starts off as just a house, a box with windows, and you miss your old home. You arrange your things just so and wait for the new smells and sounds to bleed into you.
Then one day you are home, and your old home is now just a house.

I've now reached the stage where the new house is the home. At the time of writing I still felt like a stranger in it.
