Gather members are a homespun sort. They prefer to receive a homemade scarf or a plate of cookies to something more impersonal like cash or something from a store. 

 Correction: The total of those who prefer gift from stores is 48% when you add "store-bought" and "gift card" responses. This is greater than the 31% who prefer home made gifts. - GET

I disagree with your analysis. If you look at all gifts as "home made" and "something more impersonal like cash or something from a store", then you only have 31% of the members voting for home-made, and 24+24+21=69% of the members voting for impersonal.

Well, I'm one of the "home-spuns", at any percentage.... I'd rather have something simple, that didn't cost much money....actually, this Christmas gift giving thing is so hyped up, I'd rather not receive a gift at all....and then I'd feel better about everyone not having to feel so stressed out and financially burdened.


My idea of a good holiday...no matter what the holiday...is a meal and conversation, shared with family and friends.

I only want home made if it's from my kids. Dont give me crap that doesn't even match anything I own that I'm forced to display because it was cheaper for you to make. I'd rather get nothinging.

I'm really glad to hear the poll results as we make mostly all gifts that we give, throughout the holiday season and throughout the year. Giving doesn't have to start and stop with Christmas...

I think homemade can be the best, if it's clear thought and care went into it. Otherwise give me art, books, writing supplies, art supplies, unusual unique jewelry, unique scarves, things that show me you know me!

I answered gift cards, specifically to Borders, Barnes and Noble or my favorite skin care/health and beauty stores, or CD's, cause my other passion is music (apart from Opera and Klezmer!) My friends know I love to read but so often will buy me books that 'THEY'D like to read, but aren't necessarily what I want to read! I'm sensitive to certain perfumes and scents so it's just safer to give a gift card rather than something I can't/won't use!
I know, I know! I'm a picky b**ch but I'm the one who has to live with what people give me! Home made as in baked goods or certain types of lotions and creams are cool too but refer back to what I said about scents... if you don't know me that well, please just a hug and a smile with good wishes will do...or a gift card:))
