We did it! We made it! And I have soooo many tales to tell.
As of Thursday....I became a RNA. What is a RNA?
It is a registered nurse applicant. What that means is:
1. I have a year from the day when the Virginia Board of Nursing receives my transcripts to take my NCLEX-RN....in other words, my boards.
2. I am eligible to sit for boards.
3. I can work for 90 days or until I pass my boards.
AKA I gotta take those boards.....and then I can drop the "A" and be a full fledged RN.
woooot!
I want to let you all know that as soon as I get the pics I will post up all the great stories. So until then......
HUZZAH!
(I have some exciting news to share!)

You have funny honey - you've put in the work, partay.
Thank you so much flit. I figure maybe he should read my articles first before he assumes he knows how I work.
Plus he should know how much karoke we sing....hee....he might like us better then. (my attempt to lighten up the place....hee)
Thank you so much....I really want to post pictures....and tell stories.
Had to laugh at KaraokeMan's comment. I do NOT HAVE any LPN's to "send out on missions" and usually only ONE aide, if that, plus no ward clerk/secretary. The RN's on our unit have to do it all, patient care, be the aide, be the secretary, etc. Whatever is to be done, the RN's are the ones to do it! There just isn't anyone else!
I know Wilma. When I did my externship....I did a night rotation. Where there were no admins, 1 - 2 LPNs to share for the 42 patients. There were nights that I never saw the LPN....not by their fault at all...just the crazy nurse to patient ratio....9:1 some nights. I didn't have time to go to the bathroom, eat, rest, sit.....let alone try to find a LPN or 1 of two aides. We were all busy.
Besides...I am not the kind of nurse he described. There is a shift back to team nursing these days. And Team means just that. It would be ridiculous to disregard the folks there to help....from the aide to the LPN to the house keeper.
I was trying to ignore it....but I can't lie that I felt the sting. Especially since it isn't any kind of behavior I observed or engaged in. There was never a day in my clinical experience that I didn't wipe a bottom or clean someone up....in addition to admissions, discharges, IV, giving meds.....the list is endless.
You have the wrong one Mr. Karoke.
Anyway, congratulations, I am proud of you!! Send me a message when you get a chance, I'm curious where you'll be working and what you'll be doing. I don't have a job lined up yet. Getting frustrated with the job search.
You've worked hard, I know... And I know this not only from your very entertaining articles, but because I have a daughter who became an RN almost a year ago. She took the NCLEX-RN about a month after graduation, so she didn't make use of the "RN(A)" designation--she spent that month studying NCLEX review books. %^}
When it was all said and done she passed with no trouble at all--she got the med. length test and was done in about 45 min, I guess...
I'm sure it will be a breeze for you, too. :o)
Say, I didn't know you were in VA! Which college did you go to, if you don't mind me asking?
