Have you ever had one of those moments when all you could do is shake your head? Well last week I had just such a moment.
I was preparing to return to nursing school and had a few extra bucks so I decided that I would treat myself to a new laptop. I spent nearly an entire day going from store to store to find the perfect laptop. I finally decided on a Toshiba that I found for a really good price at Circuit City. In addition to the laptop I purchased a new aircard and a few extra dollars to have everything installed. While I was checking out (oh I forgot to mention that my mother was shopping with me) the salesman offered me the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty. Now normally I am all for warranties but on this ocassion, I let my mother convince me that it just wasn't worth it to spend $300 on an extra warranty for a computer that I was paying $550 for. Anyway I decided not to get the waranty. A few hours later I picked everything up from the store and headed home.
I forgot to mention one more thing..... I have a 4 year old.
So I get home and naturally I really wanted to play with my new toy so I took it out of the box and was ready to get started typing away. Unfortunately for me the battery was quite low since it was brand new. Not thinking clearly... obviously, I found the closest plug, plugged it in and sat it on the table in my livingroom. Let me mention one more dumb thing that I did, I left the laptop in the open position.
Well, less than 10 minutes had gone by and I had gone into the kitchen to fix a drink, never thinking that my 4 year old would touch anything, boy that was really stupid, I came back just in time to see him slamming the top of my new computer down. I have to a admit that I was surprised since he had never touched my old computer. I gave him a stern don't touch that and sent him on his way to watch cartoons. I left the computer charging for a while and when I opened it I nearly lost my mind.... when he slammed the top down he had cracked the LCD screen and completely blown out my monitor. Having not purchased the warranty, I am now out the money since the manufacturer warranty dosen't cover trauma.
So I have to say that I certainly learned a valuable and expensive lesson, never go against your better judgment even when your mother tells you to. I can laugh about this now because I have no one to blame but myself for being so stupid.
I chalk this one up to one of those moments when all you can say is what was I thinking.

I'm so sorry!
Circuit City will exchange the product if it happened to be broken when it was opened. Trust me .. Good luck lol
I do computer repair, but I HATE working on laptops - have never done a monitor replacement, so no idea how complicated it would be.
Worth talking to Toshiba though .... they saved me a lot of money over what the store I bought it from was going to charge me
wow thats just ...
