Hi,
This was written by our son who does this every single year. We're very proud of him. I thought I'd pass along this and the links just in case anyone else wanted to know about it.
Hugs,
Marilyn
Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why I've decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in New Haven, CT
Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community, and Relay supporters help the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancer-free future.

Yes, Dave is our son. These are not all his links and some are for information. He's lost both grandparents to this disease - we're proud of our son.

Eileen - My Mom, Dad, Aunts (several), Uncles (several) as well... gone from that horrible disease. Stats are one thing - when it's personal, it's so much worse.
Hugs,
Marilyn
I participate in the Relay for Life every year as well as the Race for the Cure.
I personally do not have breast cancer but my mother had it and so did my best friend. I lost my best friend to breast cancer 5 years ago, she was 39 and 6 months after that, my mother passed away from breast cancer at age 75.
In fact, the night that my best friend died, we were to be walking together all night at the Relay for Life.
I was at her bedside when she passed away and after that, I left the hospital and went directly to the track where the event was held. I told all of the people in her life of her passing and I bought an extra sand candle for her and a big group of us walked the night and cried together.
This event is super special to anyone that cancer has touched.
If you have never been.....go there. You can spend the night there in a tent or you can just leave when you want to.....Please check it out in your towns.
That had to have been and probably still is, so hard for you. It's a good thing to do, and there's not enough ever that's good that people will really reach out and do.
Yep, Debra, you two would get along great, sense of humor :)
Thanks, Shawnee, he takes a tent and whoever he can get and whatever donations that they get and just walks and walks - one night/day he did so many miles.
Yes it is very hard to attend the event during the "survivors" walk and when they turn the lights out for the candle walk but ...it is all in the memory of my mom and of my best friend. Actually, the event is super fun because they always have bands, activities, good food etc. It always seems like everyone gets to know each other like one big huge slumber party.
If you have never been to a Relay for Life....I am serious, go to one.
Dawn - He's the best. One of my own heroes, even though he's our son. He gets so excited about doing it every year.
Thanks for posting and making more people aware of this wonderful event.
