Why am I not surprised? Dede Scozzafava, the GOP "back room"-picked candidate, has endorsed her Democrat opponent in NY's 23rd Congressional District "special" election. It looks like the NYS GOP pushed her out, after she started trailing the Conservative candidate, Doug Hoffman.
For a candidate that's supposed to be a Republican, Ms. Scozzafava had a very liberal record. In a seat that has been held by the GOP for over a century, that's probably not a first. However, in today's political climate, it is a sign of greater conservative influence in the GOP. Ms. Scozzafava is effectively changing parties. Is this where the GOP leadership wants to take the party?

It's simply the "upper" rungs of the 'republican' party misreading what the guys "lower" down in the Republican ladder will continue to sit still for. The answer, had the Newt's et al bothered to find out was, not much more. Thus the "third party" candidate kicked the token republican's butt.

"Backroom?" Chosen by 11 REPUBLICAN county chairs? So, instead of accepting the choice of the GOP on the ground, those who live and work in the district, they MUST accept a RW carpetbagging nutjob in the pocket of Sarah Palin, Steve Forbes and Dick Armey? So much for the voice of the people in GOP land.

Well gee Sam, I guess those county chairs were wrong. Sometimes you need to take into consideration what the people in your district actually want. And from the looks of the poll numbers they didn't bother to think of that. Maybe they learned their lesson. I hope so. No more dem lights. Hopefully they are going to be a thing of the past.
Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the New York election sent a message that was perhaps more troublesome to Democrats than Republicans: that the anger in the electorate is clearly not a mandate for the Democratic agenda."
"Barring that, the Democrat will probably win."
Looks as if I qualified that one just enough. A Democrat won, when no Republican was in the race. Pelosi gloats, as her empire burns. This much is obvious.
