What Goes Around, Comes Around

I have found that the way we handle these kind of people has a lot to do with the outcome.

I always took the saying to mean that if you do something bad, something bad will happen to you - Karma

I agree with Jaime -- I have always thought of it in terms of karma as well.

My husband passed this year. I survived skin cancer. Both my mother and my ex-mother-in-law were hospitalized. I lost half my hair. What the heck did I do that brought all this on? Not a bloody thing. Life is just yucky and sucky sometimes!

yeah, i took the saying to mean if you treated people bad then you could expect to get something bad in your life.

In general, I see it as "what you do comes back to you, good or bad", but sometimes, bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to mean people.

I agree with Lauren. Like Gorgeous Gabby, a Gather Geeky Gal sometimes bad things happen to people we feel don't deserve them. In those cases I feel it is just God's way of testing our strength and helping us to learn whatever lesson it is he has in store for us. Not to say it makes those things feel any better.

When people are mean I just try to tell myself "Karma's a B@(&#" to keep me from going off. Usually doesn't work, but I try.

I know of a few people that this is true for. I have an Uncle and Aunt that adopted 4 kids and then treated them like crap. These were kids that already came from abuse (of all kinds). They say things like adopting them were mistakes. I guess they are trying to make themselves feel better since now these kids are running away from home as fast as they can.

Why do you expect someone to stay around and be nice to you, when you are nothing but mean and hateful to them? Just doesn't make sense. Yet, they cry "Oh poor us!" As if everything happens to them and they are just saints. UGH! Again I say "Karma's a B@(&#!

Some time bad things happen to good people, but as a guideline I believe that what goes around comes around. This thought makes me think twice before acting a lot of times.

I believe in this principle so much that I named my daughter "Karma" so that, if she learned NO OTHER lesson in her life, at least she would have some understanding of this lesson... Many times, we are not present when the "pay back" occurs to people who have done us wrongly -- my satisfaction lies in the fact that, if no other time, when these people are breathing their last breath upon this earth that they -- faced with the immediate prospect of retribution for the things that they have done -- will regret them; however, by then it will be too late to try and set things right.

I would also like to add that "payback" isn't always a "negative" thing... We are also rewarded for the GOOD things that we do... even if it's in that same scenario... When those of us who try to be helpful human beings and do good works are breathing OUR last breaths upon this earth, we will feel no such dread but can pass on safe in the knowledge that we have done nothing to receive retribution FOR...

I think of my grandmother and her second or third husband [can't remember which he was!] when I hear this saying. They both lived lives full of meanness and spite, giving nothing to anyone [emotionally, spiritually, financially] and when they got old and sick, basically gram's husband died alone and no one really mourned his passing, not even his children because of the cruelty he showed them in life. My grandmother is reaping the consequences of her mean life now. Her children don't really care or come see her in the rest home. What goes around, comes around. How do you care about someone that has never cared about you? And in fact, has been as mean to you as your worst enemy [maybe even meaner?] It's really sad.

Our life here on earth is but a drop of water to an ocean in the greater eternal realm that we live in spiritually. We only came into this life of temporal incarnation for the learning process of cause and effect that space/time reality provides for us.

From the realm and perspective we cane from, we knew what we would be getting into here, including the picking of our families we would be born to, along with the probable problems to be expected ... we also knew then that in that birth we would probably lose contact with our spiritual home and be forced into a separate ego existence because of it.

The people we run across have most likely been known to us in past lifetimes also, we are really like actors in life playing preassigned roles that we have forgotten were just that, a type of cosmic playacting, we think this is all spontaneous and real.

Thus our Karma plays out over multiple lifetimes and that is why it seems that good things happen to bad people and vice versa ... but it never does as God is the judge and authority that made up the rules of the game ... one being that there are no accidents and nothing happens without a reason ... it is all a learning process for our soul and we are the vehicles used to execute it all ... when the vehicle wears out, we go back and rest up for another future 'play' ... everything is accounted for, there are few rules, we self create our own realities along with the secondary co-creation with those we play with. All things work out for the greater good of eternity.

I see this as meaning that people who do bad things-will have bad things come back at them. That doesn't mean that sometimes bad things just happen for no reason at all.

Someone else pointed out hte same way I think of this saying. Usually when someone does something wrong, you hear this repeated, so I always thought of it as Karma. A they'll get what's coming to them attitude.

I think it means something like you get what is coming to you. I haven't
found that to be necessarily true. Sometimes, bad things happen to

berf, maybe we feel that it is a given of unfettered human nature that we would practise the Golden Rule ... had we not been so indoctrinated by religious propaganda about the fearful evil that we all are, being born sinners and all of that. Isn't it fear that our current government is always promoting ... negativity after negativity after negativity ... ad infinitum it seems ... ??? Karma works all directions it is all about nonjudgmental balance, simple accounting.

You seem to be talking more about irony than a cliche.

Every time I hear this I remember my belief system NKJ:
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The meaning says even if things do not appear always to come around be it good or be it evil - What goes around if not in this live surely comes around in the next.

I love it, no matter what someone does to me good or bad they will be blessed or get their consequences one way or another - thus - proving - what goes around comes around.....

I've got to say that I agree with the majority of the comments in here that it's saying there is a good side and a bad side to what could be coming your way. It depends on if you are doing bad or good things to people. I have to also say that just because you don't witness the person getting his just rewards that doesn't mean that he gets off scott free. There will be a day where he will finally gets what he really deserves. The good people who have bad things happen are being tested. That's my opinion.

Sandy, you have a point. The why is much more important than the situation itself. That is so true.

I have found that by not doing anything ugly or druel to those that hurt me they have had terrible things happen to them. I think it is karma(what goes around comes around)what you send out into the world comes back to you 10 fold.

Oh gosh, I know a few people that fulfilled this cliche'. And I take to your meaning of it too. Especially the part about not necessarily being around when what goes around comes back around : ).

There is a positive side to this cliche, too. If you put out positive, then positive things will come back to you. I think it holds true. Positive people can usually handle more and still be happy in life. You may not see how negative people truely feel, because they keep their real feelings hidden behind a mask. However, when they are alone with their guard down, you can see that they do not like themselves and therefore do not know how to truely like others. I'm sure that this does not apply to all, but to the ones it does, it is really rather sad and lonely.
