I've sat and listened to people accusing Dodd of just about everything but shoveling money to AIG Execs. No, I've seen that too. I'm not a big fan of Senator Dodd, but the truth needs to come out. Last night, MSNBC did a before and after segment of Republican speeches that was highly informative, on the Rachel Maddow Show. Anyway, turns out it was the same Repubs gritching about these bonuses, were the ones speaking out against this kind of regulation on companies accepting bail out funds. The hypocrisy was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and that's not even considering their insistence on autoworkers contracts being torn up, to get federal funds. Apparently, if you're wealthy, Republicans protect you, if you're not...chit out of luck. They and the BA were the ones that insisted contractual bonuses not be regulated, Mitch McConnell was just one of many. Now...... today, in the house Republicans split 85 to 87 not to tax those bonuses back into the taxpayers coffers. What? Could there be bigger flip flopping in all of politics?

Um, aren't the dems in control of both houses of congress? And, doesn't Obama have a highly competent, [chuckle] albeit tax cheat as Secretary of Treasury?
Here is the real truth. We elected an inexperienced incompetent as president, who doesn't know how to govern. His treasury secretary asked congress to remove language that would have prohibited these alleged egregious retention bonuses. Blame Dodd? Why, because he was the recipient of a sweetheart mortgage deal from Countrywide Bank, thus making him already corrupt? Oh no Ron, the blame for this circus must be put squarely at the feet of our president-in-training, who is obviously in way over his head.
But really, wasn't Obama's appearance on Leno great? Hey Barack, being president is really fun isn't it? Too bad we just can't rid of that pesky "governance" thing. LOL!!
If Obama takes time to do a late night talk show, good for him! I enjoyed seeing him smile and joke, and remark about living in the bubble. It's about time we had a president who admits it's "cool" to ride in Air Force One. It's about time we had a president who realizes it's a PRIVILEGE to ride in style.
Get used to having an adult for POTUS.

Where, where? Oh I get it, you are obviously looking ahead to 2012 when we kick this youngster out of office---I'm right there with ya!

Ron, come now, you don't actually believe this I know. Look, baby Barack just can't handle a real job. What he should have done if he was so "outraged" by these bonuses was to limit or eliminate them outright from the non-stimulus bill [by the way, still awaiting those "shovel ready jobs"]. He entrusted this task to the the tax cheat (you can't make this stuff up) treasury secretary, as if he knew what he [Geithner] was doing. Now to follow up on Em's advice, what really need are some real adults in Washington to save our country.
BTW, I loved Barack saying he was concerned about a sense of "entitlement" on Wall Street. Yeah, this from a guy who had experience in nothing riding the wave of affirmative action right into the White House! LOL! This guy really does deserve a regular gig on Leno.
“Retention bonuses paid to insiders are permissible only if: (1) the bonus is essential to the retention of the insider because the insider has a bona fide job offer from another business at the same or greater rate of compensation; (2) the services provided by the insider are essential to the survival of the business; and (3) the amount of the bonus is not greater than 10 times the mean retention bonus paid to non-management employees during the year in which the bonus is paid to the insider, or if no retention bonuses are paid to non-management employees during the year, the amount of the bonus is not greater than 25% of the amount of any retention bonus paid to the insider in the preceding calendar year.”
Frankly I’m angrier at the amount of money given to AIG to in effect bail out foreign banks than I am about the money given to guarantee retention (not performance) bonuses given in good faith a year ago. I’m angry at the “death threats” these people have received, including from members of congress!
P.S. For some reason even I don’t fully understand, I gave you a 10 as well. I’ll just blame Friday and call it a weekend.
Your idea of "real adults", unfortunately, are the morons that put us where we are.

Well Ron, his poll number are slipping, hence his appearance on Leno. This guy has to get out of campaign mode and grow up! Thankfully, responsible Americans see this.

Yes, and a child shall lead us....right over the cliff.
Ron (obstreperous savant) W., Mar 20, 2009, 9:26am EDT
Ron, as you know I wasn't a Bush supporter. Your guy Obama, ran on a platform of "saving" the country. He is doing a miserable job, unless you count an impending trade war, uncontrolled spending and cloudy foreign policy as "saving."
Ron (obstreperous savant) W., Mar 20, 2009, 9:30am EDT
?????? Hmmm, democrat congress. Perhaps the republicans can increase their poll numbers by actually blocking some of this mess, ya think?
Free trade isn't free, and all you have to do is look around at our country, it's vanished manufacturing base, and the unemployment lines to get your eyes opened to the truth. Personally, I'd be more than happy to give up all the cheap WalMart Chinese lead based, melemine laced, crap, to get a few jobs back on US soil.
"uncontrolled spending"
I don't see anyone that could do the things we need to do that could do it without some deficit spending. Considering that we got here by massive deficit spending to finance Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and a war we didn't even need to be in, for big oil, I take some comfort in the fact that Dems at least are doing it to try to help us, whereas Republicans did it to rape us for the benefit of their rich benefactors.
"and cloudy foreign policy"
OK, want to get into specifics here?
REALLY?! I never knew!
ROFL!
