An angry poem

I ran into one of my husband's friends at my work and he said something that both made me angry and hurt me and I wrote this because of it.

Do You Even Care?

Do you care that your words
cut through to my hidden
pain? Did you stop
to think what you were saying
or are you so wrapped
up that you don't care
if what you say
hurts me? I wanted
to invite you over
and you insult
me and tell me what
a bad parent I am
although I can't
have children. So you
tell me what a bad parent
I will become. How mean
and how hurtful can you
be? Oh yes but congrats
on the baby you are going
have next year. Congrats
on it being your birthday.
That makes it alright
for you to burn me with your
words. It hurts.

What a drag. Some people have no idea what's going to come out of their mouth next, and so it's often stupid and callous.

I like to think that karma happens.....maybe not as instantaneously as we might want, lol, but I believe his words will come back to haunt him some day.

The words people say tell what kind of person THEY are, not what YOU are. So try not to take them to heart.

Sometimes you just need to vent and it's the time of year when the hustle and bustle can really bring out the worst in people -- like what you experienced. One of our recent governors, Jim Edgar, once said that, "You can't always control events, but you can control your reaction to them." My brother, like your invader, always likes to try to push my buttons. So if he does that, I just delete his e-mails. If and when he treats me with respect, I'll answer him. Otherwise, bye-bye. So just hold your head up high and resolve not to lower your dignity to his level. Thanks for posting this -- you have a happy and blessed holiday week!

Thank you everyone... this was my vent. I feel better! I just was so taken aback that he would say that to me...

Isn't poetry a wonderful medium for venting? You did a great job of that, and I'm glad you are feeling a little bit better now. Please don't take what he said personally. Some people just don't realize how much they hurt others with their words. God bless you, dear!

Glad you got it out of your system. He sounds like he's a little too thick to be reasoned with. If doing something like this really helps, thats great. There is always going to be someone like him to contend with, so you need to develop your own way of dealing with them.

Oh Sandra, I am so sorry this ignorant person hurt you so. Remember he is the ignorant one, and we all love you here.
I think it's tragic that people think they can say whatever they want and have so little regard to someone else's pain. It will come back on him, I believe that. You have to take the hurt from the source....I have people in my life who's words had hurt me so in the past, but when I look back, I'm the one who succeeded, and now anything they say just makes me smile because, I know better. I'm sorry this person was so thoughtless as to hurt you in your own home that way. I also would never have them in my home again. They don't belong there.

I am sorry someone said something to hurt you. I want to say don't let it. But it easier said than done. I know even when we act like it don't hurt..it usaully does. I am here as your friend. I wish I could hug you and say I am sorry he hurt you. Sometimes people don't stop to think before they say something.

That is extremely rude and uncalled for. He should have been a little more sensitive to your situation, especially in lieu of his obvious pending arrival. Some people just don't get it.

I love gather. It makes us healthier people because we can share our inner pain and have the truth (from friends) reflected back with love. My first reaction when you shared this was physical. He needs a good thrashing. But you know..he is talking about himself. I was told that years ago to remind myself that when someone is pointing one finger at me, three are point back at them. I guess the thumb is neutral. And Iv'e watched people, and it is true! It's amazing. Like lyla, I let that person go into the ethers. Ignore them. It is up to them to apologize. And he owes you a big one. You could always go up to him and tell him what you feel, but you have to be prepared to not get hooked into more of his self loathing. I have found that most times it is best to ignore them. I mean..who is this jerk anyway?! You got us!!!!
