I have wanted to write an ebook for over 3 years now- I just never knew how to do it or what to write about. I finally received my copy of "How to Write an Ebook in 7 Days" from the library and now I'm taking the challenge!
This will do 3 things.
1. Get me motivated to actually write the book.
2. If I get my fellow Gather members support I will have to follow through because I hate letting people down and
3. See if an ebook can actually be written is 7 days.
So, I will be posting everyday as I read the book, giving a short review of the chapter and then updating on what I actually did with it that day.
Day 1
" How to Write and Publish Your Own ebook in as Little as 7 Days"
By Jim Edwards and Joe Vitale
Introduction
Let's Define an Ebook
The authors start by describing exactly the different types of ebooks . There are one page documents that are glorified sales letters and there are high quality ebooks that put serious money into your pocket. (The second type is what we hope to produce!) The techniques used in this book can be used for any type of book - Fiction, Non fiction , History , Mystery and more.
Why write an ebook?
- To make profits
- To impress your customers or for prestige among your peers
- Use as a lead in to another sale or as a follow up sale to existing customers.
** I should note my reasons are to share my knowledge so people can keep their back healthy and strong and to make money while I'm at it! They don't have a ‘To help people' on their list, so I had to make my own.
What results could you expect with a successful ebook?
Success is a relative term. The book goes on to say that the biggest part of the ebook is finding the right formula to make it profitable. They make some pretty outrageous claims like 100,000 in as little as 5 months and so on. That happened to be a mortgage loan tip ebook, so I think a lot of it has to do with the type of ebook you are selling. Obviously, if you write a book about ‘toe reading' and no one is interested you won't make the big bucks.
Motivation
The power of ‘why'. The authors explain that you need to stay focused on why you want to write the book. This kind of tells me there is a high drop out rate of actually completing this program. So, I will need determination to stick with it.
Ebook Failure Formula
1.Write a book
2. Look for a market
3. Pray
4. Get mad and give up
Ebook Success Formula
- Find a niche market.
- Analyze wants, needs and problems.
- Write a book that satisfies the needs and wants.
- Market the book directly to your niche market and make money.
Some tips they offer:
Find something you are really interested in and ask a few questions.
What is the real size of the market?
Will the size warrant writing an ebook?
Will the target audience be willing to pay for it?
The best way to find out what your target market wants is to simply ask!
This is where you come in Gather!!! Read Part 2 of my post today and be a part of my ‘project'! I am offering free ebooks to everyone who helps me with this when the book is completed ( hopefully in 7 days ;-)

Now I'm not saying that all ebooks aren't good but I've yet to find one that is. Again, just my opinion.
As you write your book just keep asking yourself questions like: Why would someone want to read this ebook; If someone was sitting next to me on a plane and I was telling them my ebook story, would I bore them to death; If it only takes me seven days to write the book why should I expect someone to take seven days to read it; Am I just writing this book for myself or for others? Remember, you have to be able to get others interested in the book and keep them reading. If I as a reader, think you don't care about me I'm going to stop reading and go on to something else. Also remember, you're not going to be sitting at my side as I read the ebook so don't assume I know everything about the topic.
Writing any kind of book is a hard job and it means plenty of work. Just because people can write an ebook in seven days doesn't mean that it should have been written in seven days.
But, after saying all that, I'll read what you posted. I love books and I love a good author but I don't like it when authors write just to see their name in print.
I'm right behind you cheering you on. GO ANGELLA!!!
