What? It Could Have Been Free?

This is a lesson for myself to always remember the benefits my credit card offers.

Recently my car's battery died and the jump-start failed, so I had to call a tow truck and paid over $90 (I think they had a surcharge because it was late night - 11:30 PM).

I had just found out that my credit card - American Express - offers free roadside assistance (jump, tow, lock-out, out-of-gas, etc) to card holders. This benefit is available on the no-annual-fee cards as well (like the Blue card I have).

So, if I had remembered, the towing would have been free.

I always belong to AAA. They also pay for a hotel room if you are stranded because of a car problem.

Thanks, everyone.

Unfortunately my husband didn't get a receipt (he's bad at that). I have also already asked my insurance and we don't have towing coverage (for non-accident related stuff).

Oh well, lesson learned.
