Talking back to the TV screen

I'm always somewhat amused when I see people talking back to their...

TV screen;
Radio;
Newspaper;
Web page.

Apart from the web page which can sometimes happen to be a community, a blog, a forum or a wiki where relatively structured feedback can be posted, these are all mainly "one-way" mediums.

Therefore, all the talking in the world, by these apparently talkative but obviously a little too lonely people won't change the course of human history, to say the least.

Perhaps I'm not the only one amused to see people, young and old, poor and rich, talk back to their TV screen... waiting for a relevant answer, or not!

I do it all the time! I don't think there is anything wrong with it, as long as you aren't expecting an answer! It's no different from talking the traffic light telling it to change to green because you've waited long enough! Normal. Normal. Normal.

The only time I talk to the TV is when I'm watching a game show and then I shout out answers (some wrong, some right) or yell at the contestant to stop being a moron. :-)

I try to say out loud what I am attempting, in all actuality to telepath to the subject on the screen, you know, one of the idiots from your other article. ;)

As an ex-television board operator...I talk back to the tv when I see an obvious board-op error....like posting the wrong picture with the story.....or not getting the weather map up while the announcer is trying to talk about the weather....LOL

I SCREAM.....OMG!!!! Board Op!!! Where ARE you??? What are you DOING??? Are you asleep at the wheel?

Can't help it....I do the same to the radio when they have "dead air"....sorry., EX-DJ here....

You should see me playing one of those Nintendo games...I give those little critters on the screen an earful...to say nothing of my extreme body language. Other people can't sit near me and the furniture and knick-knacks are always in peril...when Laura Croft jumps I jump with her...clear the way.

Actually, I've heard that some of the newer cable boxes actually have a small camera in them -- but I'm not sure if it's been activated. When I got my newest little Sanyo TV (with a V-chip), I noticed that it used to make a little clicking sound every once in a while (!). And the newest Apple computers also have built-in webcams -- so will we have any privacy in the future?! I've heard that Japan has some kind of interactive TV voting system, but I'm not sure if they still do. One Christmas I got my two brothers a couple of those TV remotes that look like pistols. So they can "duel it out" in style! But my mom is the ultimate TV neurotic -- she loves to yell at Martha Stewart ("cut your hair!") or Elizabeth Hasselbeck on 'The View.' Maybe some people just like to be annoyed!!

I am proud to admit that I talk to my TV. The year we got a DVD player I spend hours trying to hook it up. I was extremely frustrated. I am an intelligent woman, I hooked up my stereo, I not only hooked up my VCR but programmed it too! But, I was not able to get the DVD player hooked up. Then a commercial came on that said, "did you get a DVD player for Christmas and can't get it to work?" I said, "Why, yes, I did!" and the man on the TV said, "come on down to Radio Shack and get an RF converter" So I did. and I had my new DVD player hooked up within five minutes. The moral of this story? Those of us who speak to the TV are not always lonely or insane!
