Sometimes, the goal of a preacher is (or should be) to get people to think about things which they ordinarily wouldn't think about.

Listen to what King said about the Vietnam War at his own Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta on Feb. 4, 1968: "God didn't call America to engage in a senseless, unjust war. . . . And we are criminals in that war. We've committed more war crimes almost than any nation in the world, and I'm going to continue to say it. And we won't stop it because of our pride and our arrogance as a nation. But God has a way of even putting nations in their place." King then predicted this response from the Almighty: "And if you don't stop your reckless course, I'll rise up and break the backbone of your power."
Was King's Non-violence the correct way?
Ultimately, he was shot for expressing his ideas.
Yet, I suppose we did ultimately loose Vietnam with 63,000 young men dead.

Preachers are supposed to teach the Bible and exort people to good deeds and getting along with one another. They have no place in hate speach like that of the so called Rev. Wright.
Obama sat under hid tutalige for 20 years and now he don't agree with Wright? That is a damn lie. If he didn't agree he would have left that church.
It's time to tak care f ourselves for a few years. When we're at peace we thrive as a nation. When we're at war we end up fighting amongst ourselves as a people and that's just what our enemies want.
As far as King's non-violent ways, I was in agreement with that. But sometimes his preaching went to far.
I think some people are determined to snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory.
If we were okay with the rest of the world learning Chinese or Russian as the international language, then yes, maybe. But we are interested in exploiting free markets, and getting goods produced inexpensively, and transported over here, so we can hide inflationary pressures.
Going to war needs to be a last resort after all diplomatic and economic efforts have been completely exhausted.
Again, if you'll remember, we were attacked. Daniel Pearl was beheaded. That free-lancing contractor guy in Baghdad was beheaded. The editor lady for the christian science monitor was released, but she had some pretty scary moments, I think.
I believe that Saddam used Terrorism to oppress his own people. His sons Qusay and Uday were bad guys who supposedly raped several women.
I guess we are still going after elements of the ledership of Al Qaeda. Playing Whack-A-Mole whenever we get seemingly solid evidence.
