I thank David for his honest and concise critique of the original poem which still can be found just follow this link Where I am From -- David L.'s Challenge
I took all of his suggestions except one as I did not change the following two lines
My life has been touched by many the soul
And often my jobs were to heal or console
One of the definitions of "soul" is "a human being or a member of the human race.
I feel the lines say exactly what I intended them to say
My life has been touched by many people
Many of my jobs have been in a healing profession both physical and mental.
Once again thank you David for such an honest and thorough critique. I am sure my work is better for it. Thank you also for being glad I am me.
David has many great works that are wonderfully written and bring many joy in the reading. Though lately he has given us a taste of another side of him, I find that side just as enjoyable as when I first read him.
You can find his articles here
I hope you will take a the time to read some of his delightful work -- of course not this minute read this first! LOL
I come from big families and old haunted houses
From battling siblings and quarreling spouses
Love always enduring beneath our Oak's bough
Independence instilled that still lives on now
I come from the loneliness borne by a child
Most often the outcast as rumors beguiled
Still different from others as I grew to a teen
Encased 'neath the Willow became my routine.
I come from the tragic yet have tasted great joy
One came to heal one came to destroy
Each step a life lesson of who I would be
How much would I grow and to what degree
I come from a life with so many the doors
That fact vs. fiction is what many explore
My life has been touched by many the soul
And often my jobs were to heal or console
I come from a myriad of children on hand
My family just constantly seems to expand
Promises made that I'd care for each one
Were kept to the letter for it's just what I've done.
I come from Earth that grounds me you see
And the Air that allows me with all to agree
I come from the Water that lends me insight
And from the Fire whose passions delight
I come from this all and would live it again
With nary a change and a solid amen
Had I not had each moment, each pleasure, each strife
I wouldn't be me I'd have some other life.

Thank you Jessie it is nice to hear, though I am sure I need a lot more work on my writing. However remarks like yours always push me to do better and reach higher.
Gary so glad you dropped in, hope you are feeling better. Yes David is an exceptional writer and SO worth reading.
Lisa Hi, thank you with a little critiquing it has perhaps become not a bad first attempt. I do live in Indiana but I am not originally from this state. My mother grew up here though in the Evansville area with a family of Mom, Dad, and 18 siblings. Hope you enjoy your visit back here. :-)
