The Draft
In case you haven’t heard, there is a talk of bringing back the draft again. It literally makes me shiver. The idea of taking men away is scary enough. The idea of sending them off to battle bothers me. It bothers me as much war does. The draft takes young men and maybe even young women and turns them into instant fighters. Not all men are cut out to be soldiers, so what happens to them. What happens to men who refuse to spill the blood of another human? It’s sad enough to see our people dying in Iraq. The draft would just allow the government to replace dead soldiers with living fighters. It plucks sons and fathers right from their busy lives, their loved ones, and turns them into servicemen.
What was this congressman thinking about getting the draft back? He said that he is using the draft to deter politicians from declaring war. It is so freaking stupid. It won’t stop us from going to war again. If the draft was going to stop us from going to war, why did we fight in Vietnam ( sp? ). I don’t believe anyone could see it as a tool for keeping us off the battlefield. We have to honest about this who draft thing.
Questions, I want answers to:
1.Are gay guys going to be drafted?
2.If a person has pre-existing health problems will they be drafted?
3.Will women be drafted?
4.What about teachers?
5.What about college students?
6.Why now?

I heard on the news today that there is absolutely no support for this in Congress. Zippo. Zilch. Nada. These people know a popular issue when they see one, and this ain't it.
I guess what got me about the whole mess is the idea that the draft would deter war. Even if a few politicians kids went to war, it wouldn't change things.
