Let us remember that every politician on Capital Hill is supposedly there to ensure Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness and Justice for every single American citizen. I think we can all agree that both parties in one way or another has forgotten "We The People" now and again. I suspect it is because of their overtaxed schedule of bickering (instead of compromising); keeping up with all those tax loopholes (receipts are such a bother you know); social lunches with Lobbyists (let's just call it an all day lunch hour a get on with it); and finding new ways to pit "we the people" against each other so we don't have time to watch what they are doing (therefore fulfilling the "dodge and weave" and "buck stops just before me" requirements to run for office).
As such I feel these small revisions need to be implemented to ensure a more cooperative government with "we the people".
A politician can only serve two terms in office regardless of the position. They may not choose to move up the latter after their two terms but rather leave politics and return to the public mainstream as just another "we the people"
There old job would be filled by a "working temp" till the end of their service so they could resume their old job and reap the benefits of their votes while in office. Not continue to be paid for having moved out of a political career for the rest of their lives on our tax dollar.
They would receive an amount equal to their service to "we the people" during their term in office to be added to their retirement fund at 65.
They would be paid no less then minimum wage and no more than a salary appropriate enough to maintain their normal financial needs before taking office while they are serving "we the people" in their political capacity.
All "political office" expenses would be pre authorized by our votes in regards to the office and the financial needs we believe are necessary to serve us well.
Health benefits for political figures may not exceed those available to the public at large at any given time during or after office.
All politicians would have the same social security promises we are faced with (meaning all private SS accounts now owned by them would be closed and the profits added to the current "lack of funds" to provide for future retirees.) Or they could accept we are not brainless and allow us the same privilege they have voted for themselves
All politicians running for office would have a "back up" candidate in place acceptable to the American public before voting the candidate into office. This back up is available to immediately take the place of the elected candidate should they feel the need to become corrupt or "stupid" in their views and political voting for us.
Pay raises for politicians would follow the same rules and guidelines as those afforded the average citizen.
Politicians found suspect of criminal actions will be suspended from their position and replaced by their "back up" while a committee comprised of "we the people" is assembled to review the facts. If in fact the politician is found guilty of criminal behavior they will be permanently replace by their "back up" and sent to trial before "we the people" and judged by a jury of "we the people". If convicted sent to a prison that "we the people" would get to enjoy if we broke the law.
The now current "back up" taking office would need to find a back up acceptable to "we the people" within two weeks in case he/she decided to become corrupt or stupid. If a suitable back-up is not found within the time limit they will be forced to leave and a special election will be held to fill the vacancy.
No politician will be allowed contact with any lobbyist. All Lobbyist must submit their proposals in writing to a group of what we deem intelligent individual for review. These individual would then submit the idea of the lobbyist to "we the people" for consideration so that we can inform our politicians on how we would like them to handle the proposal.
No bill presented by any government official will carry any riders of any kind for any reason. All bills will be presented for their face value only without adding secret extras that "we the people" have no idea are present on said bill.
The president may retain veto power however an over ride of any veto will be by the vote of "we the people" as a collective whole instead of our politicians re-voting it into law. Signing Statements will be made available to the public for vote before being added to any bill.
Any bill taking more than two weeks to pass through Congress will be submitted to a Committee of "We the People" to discover what the controversy is and if the bill is worthy. If found worthy the committee will have full power to pass it without the need of Congress.
If more than 10 reviews are sent to the Committee within a years time Congress will be immediately disbanded and replaced by their back-ups. These new Congress members will have suitable back-ups presented to the committee for approval within two weeks of taking office or they will be forced to leave and a special election will be held to fill the vacancy.
These are just a few of my humble suggestions to improve the way our government runs.
Now it is your turn to have fun -- have an amendment you would like to add? feel free to add any ideas that may have eluded me!
Do you agree with these ideas? Do you disagree? Let me know! Maybe I'll run for office next year.
Any and all comments and additions are welcome ... only rule have fun and respect each other.

I've got one for you.
There will be no "financing" of campaigns. "We the people" with our tax dollars will fund both sides equally. The allocated amount will be equivilent to the lowest annual family income to be found in the constituency.
I know you probably already know it, but being a legislator was never, ever supposed to become a full-time job with all these perqs. As originally designed, the representatives were supposed to be "one of us" who worked alongside us, but temporarily went to Washington (or a State capitol) to be our voice. They were supposed to be working in the same conditions, etc., to be a genuine voice for us. Their "pay" was to be a simple stipend so that they could afford room & board while away from home doing the representing.
Somewhere in there, someone did a Rep a favor to influence a vote, and it all went downhill, but a good man should be hard to buy.
I like all your suggestions -- if I think of any others, I'll stop back. (Hope my brother spots this article! I'm sending him a link now!)
Wonderful recommendations Amber.
Go Amber
On the lighter side perhaps I should send out invitations more often ..... LOL!
Okay give me a few to compose responses (remember anal retentive must spell check at least) Be patient with me I'm use to 4 and 5 comments for the whole article not this many all at once!
what about the int'l financiers, foundations, foreign countries & corporations that finance Think Tanks & PACs that influence/buy the politicians and come up with new legislation that favor their own agendas... what about the shadow gov't [i.e. CIA, AIPAC, neocons...] that control everything no matter which party gets elected...
we need to do away with those influences... right now our democracy is for sale...
the whole system is a scam... we have the illusion of choosing between 2 parties...
we need a multi-party system to have real options and have a semblance of the possibility of change... we also need a law that allows us to bring down the gov't by a "vote of NO-confidence" when they don't fulfill their promises and don't follow the people's wishes...
Hi Web I knew you'd be here! Dannielle knew you'd show up too. These are two great ladies people!!
Glad you added Web I was hoping for this kind of thing. Can't think of it all by myself that's why its "We the People"! This is a great suggestion how did I miss that one .... hmmmm .. lol. See how much I need you to balance me!
Dannielle Your right I did know that. Been home schooling for years so I got to relearn all this! I wish we as a people were united and strong enough to reduce Congress back to were it should be. Hope to see you back with some ideas! Might want to feel out your brother though first, see if he is angry with me for my rebuttal ... lol.
Hi Jessie nice to see you! Amazing what one thinks of while doing dishes and setting coffee for the morning. Had to write the lobbyists in after I read it over a few times just felt like I was missing something and then bam there it was.
You got it Bill. What do you think the chances are that we can start such a campaign? Sure would need a lot of people involved. I'm really glad you stopped in to take a peak.
Thank you Steve! Sorry to have pulled you away from your noble endeavor but I just thought everyone could use some light reading for a change.
BY THE WAY --- Do you all know this guy reads everyone's articles from the first to the last!!! He deserves a round of applause from the gather community. That is DEDICATION!
Thank you Maureen I am so glad you found it enjoyable. I am so glad you popped in to see me.
Gary I swear it wasn't plagiarism! I am no where near Australia .... lol.
Thanks Gary I knew you would love this -- just from the little I have read from you I knew we were of "like minds". BY THE WAY -- very insightful writer here -- very good ideas for getting the mind thinking to. Always love a good debate with Gary's articles.
Welcome Richard glad you popped by ... We needed a deep thinker. If only we could make it real can you imagine how well our country would run. It would be nice to have a united country again.
Thanks Paul ... I have been saying this for years now with gather there is someone besides my poor Scott to listen to it ... lol. Thank you too for the nice note you sent.
By the way Paul I love this story Just have not yet found the words to comment. The Folded Napkin - A Truckers Story
I think I did the link right so everyone check this out if you get the chance it is a real heart tugger.
Hi Jerry now we have two deep thinkers! Welcome to my little corner at Gather.
Oh please feel free to be funny. Yes it is serious and I don't think there is anyone who would not like to see it this way ... but laughter is what unites people maybe if enough laugh we could bring it to pass!
Hi Marc ... hey you look warm that's not fair ... lol.
It is nice to see you decided to ride the tide of gather and stay to share your views **smile**.
Yes Marc I believe it is an "oxy- moron"!! LOL. Thanks for the endorsement.
Hey Todd you came to my party **smiles** I'm going to remember this when I run for President ... LOL.
I'm ready Liz really I am. All we need is a whole lot of people who feel as we do.
By the way check your mail have a question for you.
June I don't think I would for a few reasons
1) If by some miracle we could actually rally folks to stand up and take back or Congress I for one would not want them prepared. (they have armed forces we don't (snicker)
2) Without a group involved I could mysteriously disappear!
3) From what I've experienced in the past -- "They are too busy to read and answer e-mail"
Well here is a name that is new to me! LOL ... Adam that would be a definite yep your right! Have to check your work out.
Thank you so much for adding these insights they are very important and I admit I did not think that far. Of course that is why it would have to be "we the people" because there would be thinkers like you to make sure all areas were covered!
The Folded Napkin - A Truckers Story Beautiful heartwarming story by Paul L.
Here are a few more I found
The Future of Politics by Glenn Clevenger, Sr. Great article on a very similar lines to this but in question form. He really did quite a good job. I thought it was worth the read AND
Essays on Diplomacy: Knowing What Not to Say by Kevin Weeks
This is actually the first thing I think I have read from him but I was really impressed with the presentation and content of this article.
Okay I'll quit adding links now **smile** sorry -- hope these links work -- and now the some commercials and music from our sponsors ... LOL
Gary -- It is sad to say that was probably the reason you didn't win. What would they do with an honest politician in office? I can just imagine it wouldn't be good. The internet can be a useful thing Gary but I really do believe it is just as much a hinderence at times as it is a help. I will do a google for Bonny she sounds like quite an interesting lady. Oh the poor dear has a smll army too huh? Hopefully her focus is alot better than mine.. lol!
I do not normaly vote as I feel my vote does not count. I know I will get comments about not voting but oh well my point being I would vote if you were on the ballet.
LOL .. Thanks Jewel, and it is your right to not vote you know.
