Strip Searches At Public School, Is it Possible?
I am not exactly sure where are law-makers where going with the following bill. Basically, the bill would allow for teachers and school officials to do wide scale searches of students. I like to think this bill is a load of feces. I understand the need for security. This bills is called the Student Teacher Safety Act or HR 5295. It would require school districts to establish policies which make searches easier. Any school that reserves federal funding falls under this law. What type of searches are we talking about? Well, the searches include pat-downs, bag searches, and strip searches. Of course, it always depends on how administrators interpret this law.
The mere fact. That this bill even allows for the possibilities of strip searches scares me. Let's say for the sake of argument that a student might have drugs. This bill would allow the principal or other school officials to conduct searches without warrants of ever student. How would you feel about your kid, niece, or nephew going through a search just because someone in the school might have drugs or a gun? It would allow searches at any time for almost any reason.
House leaders got around the usual procedure in order to get this bill through the House. It didn't pass through the committee process, and went straight to the house. It passed by a simple voice vote. Constituents couldn't even find out how their representatives voted on the bill. It's not expected to make it through Senate.
It's absolutely crazy! Wouldn't it be better to provide funding for metal detectors or to provide for more cops in our schools. This is bad very, very bad. You can't tell me, that this bill is a good thing. We all want more security, but at what cost should it come. We need to look at not just bill but also those bills issued for national security It's outrageous. I would be furious if my child came home and told me, they got stripped searched. Now, if you want to come in and do a lock to locked search using dogs feel free. This bill just gives me chills. What do you think about it?

EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO READ THIS.
URGH!
Metal detectors and more security.
Victoria - Schools aren't prisons. Strip searches belong in prisons.
Jackie - I totally agree with you.
Strip searches are not hopefully going to be a part of whatis going on with this bill, however in the information that I read, it was listed as a possible search that could be performed. I am really afraid that it will lead to abuses. I would like to think, we are doing a better job at catching sex offenders before they get into the school systems. But it doesn't feel like it does it.
Joe - I am sorry to here about your daughter. No child should go through that alone.
Carolyn - Even the biggest, meanest kid in school doesn't deserve a strip search.
I know that I wouldn't want to even witness a strip search.
