The tranquility and peace that is created in my soul in like none other that I have managed to find any where else. The power that fire has over the mind, body, and soul is one power that is not to be taken lightly. Great job in managing to create the scene in my mind with your captions.
Thanks, Joel. I really had to watch myself. I've already dropped my camera stooping over in parking lots (twice). This time I was trying to get in close to the fire; I'm sure that can't be good for it.
The memories. . . how many all-nighters were spent doing that? Some on mild mind-alternating substances . . . others on the hardcore psychadelics. It's a darn good thing that I chose to grow up at some point.

Hey. Remember when we were up in the road cut above Lookout Point, and we put a can of beer in the fire? (I think you were there, Jim, but as you suggested some of those memories may be compromised.) We were waiting for it to pop its top and squirt up in the air. And it didn't. And we got talking and forgot about it. And then about an hour later the side of the can ripped open like an M-80 and put the fire out. Nothing but darkness and little coals scattered over a 10 foot radius . . .
Yes, I was indeed there. What I seem to remember about that event was getting splattered by drops of hot beer, and in the immediate darkness that descended, I thought that I had been slashed to pieces by aluminum shrapnel and the hot beer was my blood dripping on my skin.
I also very clearly remember you making some darn good egg rolls over the campfire at just about that same location one summer when we had kind of a lean-to village going on. I think Mike Wage, Dave Tjossem, you and I were the inhabitants.

I do remember those good eggrolls too. Oily as sin, but nothing a 24-year-old's diet couldn't handle.
