Yanno, most people with such a large following charge the members of their fanclubs a fee. Considering the amount of attention I have been given as of late, I should really consider doing that. I mean it's one thing for people to say stuff to your face, engage you in a debate, put everything on the table on a level field.
Still some people choose not to do that. Some people feel threatened by a free thinker. Some people feel threatened by someone who goes against the grain. Some people feel threatened by someone who will not be typed into submission. Some people feel threatened for no reason at all.
When a person feels threatened, it makes them do things they wouldn't normally do. It makes them say things they wouldn't normally say or act in a away that they wouldn't normally act. That's understandable. Everybody has that instinct. It's natural - whether the threat is real or imagined. It feels real so it's real to you.
With that said, I have never found myself threatened by someone's comments. I mean I like feedback. I welcome opinions, but truly, they really have no bearing on my choice of words, actions, or thoughts. I can fully and totally understand a person's opinons and views and try to when they are presented in a way that would warrant me listening. Non-caustic. Non-inflammatory. Just plain talking.
With that said, I've certainly never found myself threatened by someone enough to carry my opinions, comments, and views behind their back. I fully believe in saying what you mean and meaning what you say and I think that's what everybody should do. To the person you have to say those things to. When the person you're talking about is present. If the person is a participant in the conversation. That's a courtesy I always, always try to afford everybody.
That's not a courtesy that I am currently being afforded here on Gather by some of the Gatherites. It wasn't enough that they had to colorfully discuss me and my family on this site - within my line of vision. They also had to let it spill over onto another site, where, I guess, they assumed nobody would look.
I don't know what to make of this, exactly. However, I will let the fact that the members, who participated in the off site bash fest, felt the need to band together as a group in order to defend themselves against one individual speak volumes for both parties.

There's not a lot you're going be able to do to change these folks - It's hard enough to ignore them when they strike on gather. It's probably not a good idea to follow them all over the rest of the web because you're not going stop them. Theywill spill their poison somewhere. That's the price of freedom of speech.
It's not about "stopping" anybody. It's about showing them as they are instead of people seeing what they claim to be.

The interview for the petition is conducted before adjudication is complete and a decision is made. And those interviews are conducted in our office every week.
