I Married An Illegal Immigrant - The US Owes Me

September 20, 2006 10:47 PM EDT (Updated: September 20, 2006 10:49 PM EDT)

I'm more than a little bit irritated to hear about all these free things that illegal immigrants are getting. I have heared claims of the US government giving them homes, free medical care, loans, food stamps, free college educations, and that's just to name a few of the benefits.

If this is true, then I want to know where I go to sign up for all of these courtesies. See, I was under the old school impression that you don't get jack unless you work for it. So my husband has been busting his ass from daylight to dark for the past 10 years to provide for me and our three US born children when, to hear everyone else tell it, he didn't have to be.

I want everything the rest of the illegal immigrants are getting. If these rumors of allotment of benefits is true, the US owes us 10 years of blood, sweat, tears, and monetary compensation.

I want 10 years of compensation for groceries because we didn't get food stamps. I want medical bills paid off and reimbursed because my US born children of an illegal immigrant were entitled to free healthcare. I want 10 years of tax refunds refunded to us in full, without the witholdings taken out. I want reimbursement for the cost of the house that we paid off.

I want it all.

Where do I go to get it?

Hey, Senobia: I've been gone a few days.

I'll email you about it......

Take care and congratulations on having your home paid off while you are so young! Your hubby must be an excellent provider.

Keep writing, honey.

Yeah, well there are plenty of legal immigrants and citizens who deserve to get my tax dollar income redistribution (look it up) much more you and your illegal hubby. You can get your un-American self and your circus wagon across the border and stay there.

This country was founded on immigration, legal immigration. I have the deepest respect for those who follow our rules in coming to this country and work/pay thier fair share of the taxes to support thier family.

I have no respect for those that ooze across the border illegaly. As far as I am concerned we should fence off Mexico (while promoting legal immigration/tourism), and use the national guard to man the border.

I would rather pay 900.00 per mile once for a fence than pay 50.00/yr for the rest of my life to illegal immigrants and thier Benedict Arnold families.

LOL.....Ya'll bite at anything!

This is a perfect opportunity to be an adult. Guys, the situation isn't going to resolved overnight. Making enemies and insulting those with different beliefs doesn't exactly breed tolerance, either.

Racism, intolerance, separatism....do any of those apply to you - in your opinion?

Try laughing with Senobia - try acting decently - we can disagree and still act like human beings.

Jackie...I have no problems with admitting my HATRED of ILLEGALS, just as I have no problem admitting my HATRED of rapists, child molesters, theives, crooks, murderers, and ALL OTHERS WHO BREAK THE LAW, and are a menace to civilized society. For the record....those who aid and abet illegals, including the Catholic Church and people like you are also criminals.

Not at all Jackie.....don't have toleration for those who abuse substances. I just don't think you like the fact that I, and many others like me absolutely HATE ILLEGALS, and what they are doing to this country, and to our lives. You don't get it, you don't care, and the same can be said for many politicians.

You don't care if someone is a criminal....you'll help them. You even break the rules of the program you work for to help them, and your posts bear that out. People like Snobia care about one thing....getting thier RELATIVES who are ILLEGAL into a LEGAL STATUS. You have YOUR AGENDA, I have mine.

I am a viking. An illegal viking with big hornies... I mean horns for Porkie...I mean Porgie.

Porgie......does Bess agree with your views?

As for marrying an illegal...love is love regardless of geography. Paid off your house and own a whore costume? Good God.....you must be loaded.

You know, it is true about the healthcare thing. Do you have a law degree? Do you practice immigration law? Besides your personal experience, do you know anything about the masses of people who are taking away from our country and its legalized citizens? Do you have hard facts?

Porgie.......valium is an inexpensive presrciption. I take it every time I start to think we are being invaded by aliens. Illegal alines...and the green ones from Navu-my native land.

By the way, I came here on a magic carpet but did not stop at the check-in desk. Will I be fined?

Hmmm....maybe the best way to handle the situation is to fine the illegals since there are 20 million of them. Since we knoe they are here but they got here illegally and are supposed to be deported.... let's not spend money to deport that costs too much. Let's just fine them all $2K. Then we can take the money and give it to the mexican government and let them buy more crack.

That is a great question!

I guess we were all illegal at one point-in that we invaded this land which was owned by Natives. But they all came from polar ice caps. That begs the question-where did we all come from? Maybe I should go back in Holland or Portugal.

Sure do! I have read and heard in media, but never knew an illegal can actually get all the provisions they talk about. How can they do without proper paper work? Does this tell you, its not just our immigration system, but the whole Federal system that is messed up? But no body mentions it!
Bush brought it up because he wanted to secure the border. In a way, the 9/11 actually is helping us in the long run.
Can anyone give(post) here facts about how, how much and where the Illigals are robbing us?

all the bellyaching is stemming from the fact that you are ILLEGAL!!! you come to this country without invitation or permission, violate our laws and expect to be greeted with open arms. (not going to happen). you contribute nothing to the government (taxes) but use our roadways and schools and now expect the U.S. Government to provide you with free education (california). you MAAM are a leach on this society and have no buisness being in this great nation. immigration is a great thing my ancestors immigrated here from scotland and i am proud of that fact, but when they came they immigrated LEGALLY!!!!! I can not beleave that you are proud to be an ILLEGAL ALIEN??????????

Wow, 10 minutes of reading and you really see what is wrong in the world. Senobia and her sarcasm aside, illegal immigration does more damage than what people think. Someone just a few blocks up asked what all the II's get, and II is Illegal Immigrant for those who are drunk or unable to guess. I know for a fact, due to a recent family emergency, that most hostpitals, unless they are private facilities typicaly university related, are considered county resources and offer services to those without medical benifits. This typically is where II's go to claim an emergency and then the bill is sent to the county. Also, any clinics that these hospitals offer tend to attact multitudes of II's, same family emergency we wated for 4 hours for an 8:00 AM apointment and we waited with 300 legal/illegal immigrants who didn't have insurance and very few could speak english, it is funny when they think you no comprende espanol. In texas they get the Loan Star Card and $XX.00 per child plus $XX.00 per adult, this is money for free food that our tax dollars go towards welfare, which is nice for people who are handi capped but not for people who want to lay around, do drugs, and have kids (which is not in any way most II's)

On top of the medical and food there is also Section 8 Housing Assistance. Section 8 Housing Assistance is Financial Support for Low to Non Income Familys typically offering 80% to 90% of their monthly rent. These homes are being rented for $800 to $900 a month and typically the owners/rentees don't make the rentors pay the remaining 20% to 10%, it all comes from the government and they get their welfare and loan star cards and housing all paid for.

The finaly thing that hurts us is the money the make. Having a job is not bad, but when a large portion of the working class sends their money out of country this hurts our economy. Instead of the worker being an American and helping his country by paying taxes, social security and other fees, he is an II and as such pays no taxes and sends almost all of his check back home to Mexico. This is noble in practice, but venders, retailers and the economy in general is a viscious cycle. Those retailers depend on the working class to spend money at their stores, thus creating more demand for either A.) Construction B.) Food/Produce C.) Clothing and Items caried by stores or D.) vehicles and other miscellanious items (all items not represented) by creating the demand then they create more jobs to supply the demand, however with all their money going back to Mexico, and none staying in the community they are hindering the economy by not supplying it, which in the long run gives ever american more jobs and more chances. It is, as I said a viscious circle.

A note: None of my comments are ment to be racist or derogitory in any way, they are however here just to inform to the best of my ability.

Senobia, when you find out where the sign up sheet is, for all these free services, let me know. Just paid a 2,600 tax bill for last year. Maybe I could get some of that back. I wish my husband could stop working these 14 hour days and sit on his butt, and collect welfare. lol... Funny thing though....Even if he could get it, I don't think he would take it. On the rare occassion he has a day off, he usually spends it doing work around the house....what a lazy bum...huh.

The truth of the matter is, while there are alot of well deserving people out there,
there are also plenty of people, who are completely capable of working
(US citizens) who "milk" the system, everyday. If we are going to look at the cause
of the strain on these services, lets look at the whole picture.

This is a serious question for Senobia. Does your husband pay taxes? I assumed that illegal aliens had to work under the table but I don't know much about it really. If he does pay taxes, I am assuming that his employers know he is illegal. You don't have to answer this here, you could email me. I am just curious. As you indicated in your article, everyone seems to think that illegal aliens get everything for free. In Massachusetts, the illegal alien question is not so debated because we are pretty far from any borders but to me it's kind of like the discussions around welfare. "They get food stamps, Section 8, free this, free that, etc." The people I have known on welfare were barely making ends meet and even if they have section 8 couldn't find anyone to rent to them. There are definitely people abusing the system but most people I have known on welfare would love a good-paying job. They want to work and achieve the American dream.

"Moggy, What makes you think I just met these people?"

Because that's the word you used "met" not "known" you said "met" see quote below.

"Also, through my husband I have met ouite a few of these, so called,
"illegal people", I don't know one that is on welfare, gets food stamps, or free education."

If you don't want me to comment on things you say, then don't say them. This is a free country and I will comment where I see fit to comment. If you didn't mean that you had "met" them, then don't say that you "met" them. If you had said "some of these "illegals" are some of our closest friends and have been for 6 years" it would have had a whole different meaning than what you actually said! Say what you mean, don't change it later when it doesn't work out the way you intended and someone catches on to it!

What I would like to see is our government actully enforcing the laws they encact. The main gripe I have is how they pick and choose what they will enforce. It is an election year, and the General Election is just around the corner. There is lots of TALK in the congress. How convienent for Politicians that they have suddenly noticed their is an illegal alien problem in the country. I live on the border. I see the invasion daily. There are many Americans that have no idea how many are actully crossing. Eventually, if non taxation of illegal aliens keeps occuring, there will be no American Economy to steal from. Our Social Security Sysem could use a good income from all of these workers. The way to do this is to document, and tax this unreported income. The people that hire these people are also ripping off our tax base, they don't pay the half of the Social Security taxes that all employers are supposed to match when paying their emplyment taxes quarterly. This IS a major problem, Senobia, and like I said, my main problem in all of this is that we have laws, and our government is not being honest with us or themselves.

Michael, the wait for Sect. 8 housing in Texas is 2yrs minimum. Sometimes, it's 5 or more. And regarding "being an American and paying taxes" refer to my article titled "Coming Here Legally" and read about what happened when on person tried to "be an American and pay his taxes and work on the up and up".

Moggy,
I "met" someone yesterday, or "met" them 15 years ago. It still proper use of the word. Get over it. It is beside to point. When you can't think of anything intelligent to say, you pick on peoples grammer or spelling. It must be nice to be perfect. LOL
All that aside, I would take any one of these "illegal" friends over a small minded
person such as yourself.

Porgie,
I don't think Senobia ever denied being married to an"illegal" or having "illegal" friends.
I am married to an "Illegal".....

It sounds funny just to say it...."illegal"....what a ridiculous way to characterize a person who comes from a different part of the world.

I am married to good, loving, caring, respectful, hard-working man.....
There thats better!

" still proper use of the word. Get over it. It is beside to point. When you can't think of anything intelligent to say, you pick on peoples grammer or spelling."

And when you can't think of anything intelligent to say you insult me, glad I could be of assistance to you Liz!

I wasn't picking on your spelling or grammar, I'm no english major myself. And, I never made any such ridiculous claim that I was perfect in any respect. You made it sound like you only casually "met" some "so called Illegal Immigrant" I wasn't picking on anything, I was "picking up on" what it sounded like you meant, from the way you chose to word it.

If I was going to refer to a good friend of mine that I'd had for many years I wouldn't have said I had 'met" a "so called Illegal" What do you mean 'so called" are they or aren't they? You should know if you're such close friends.

Don't worry Liz, I'd never be desperate enough to want someone like you as a friend so its no skin off my teeth! BTW you have no right making any comments about the size of my mind, you don't have a clue. You are awfully quick to make judgements about people that you have never even met, who's got the small mind here, sure looks more like you do!

"Cheap Labor?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage, consumers don't want expensive produce, Government will tell you that Americans don't want the jobs but the bottom line is cheap labor. "The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie.
There is no such thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five children.
He takes a job for five or six dollars an hour.
At that wage with six dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year if he files income tax he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for medicare.
All of this is at that taxpayers expense.
He doesn't have to worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his. They also pay for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup. Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT!"

Ok, ok, ok wait.

Carole you are nuttier than a gatdamned pecan tree if you believe all the stuff you're spewing.

Before I engage you in a litany of bullshit that you made up, you can either:

1. Provide proof of each and every claim that you made here (because I am equipped with proof to the contrary)

2. Kindly STFU.

Your misinformation, lies, and blatant ignorance are not welcome and won't be tolerated in an educated debate - especially one that my name is on.

You wrote a blog with the intent to get comments, you got them. If you don't want to hear the truth, then don't blog. You are soooo very sure that this is misinformation, lies and blatent ignorance. If you don't like your name on it, then take your name off.

Let's see your proof to the contrary. I'll come back and check. I can't wait to see this.

You guys don't get it Senobia husband married her so he could get his legal status, it certainly wasn't for her personality. Especially anyone who gets on here to have her "educated debate" and tells people to STFU when they debate her, now what an intolerant view. As stated by Senobia "they don't come here with stars in their eyes looking to get foodstamps, well maybe not but they certainly do come here illegally, what else needs to be said. I do not believe in Jackie's point of views but at least she is respectful to all unlike Senobia. Any compassion that i may feel for people who are here illegally is squashed by people like Senobia who chose to speak so hatefully for those here illegally.

Yeah, the truth hurts - if it is true.

I'm TIRED of us - me, my husband that came here illegally, my 3 US born children of an illegal immigrant - having to pay our own gatdamned way. SHOW ME the links to where I can sign up for all this free stuff that we're entitled to. Don't tell me it's out there. I can't find it. SHOW ME where to sign up.

No, don't tell me what you "don't like", Sherry. I don't give a rip. Show me WHERE TO GO for all of these services. I want them. I want restitution paid to us by the US government for all of the out of pocket expenses we had.

Asking you to prove your position is not "hateful". It's good debating. SHOW ME WHERE TO GO.

Oh, I know many, many illegal immigrants that would be more than giddy to let these services take them to raise. As it stands, they're paying their own way, just like we did. So send those links. People can still use them. C'mon. Tell me where to refer them. Time and money's a-wastin'.

Senobia - you get on here and talk about renting people hookers, telling people to STFU than claim to be having an "educated" debate. You even speak of doning a whore outfit are we to take you seriously? You have no class and certaintly are not carrying on an "educated" debate. You then tell another poster that their posting will not be tolerated, and is not welcome especially anything with your name on it! Yes, I am sure "your name" carries lots of weight around here and you would be angry to see your reputation as a reputable blogger go down the drain. So is this a place to debate or a place for you to show your ass.

I think it's more than evident (I think I've said this before, but there could just be an echo) that I don't give a rip what your or anyone else's opinion of me is. It's nice to make friends and all that, but I'm not a follower. I don't kiss ass, go along with, and agree for the sake of fitting in. I have questions. I want answers. I don't take kindly to popular opinion or regurgitated information. If that offends you or anyone else, click that X at the right hand top of your screen.

I *think* you're getting pissy that you've been asked for proof that you cannot provide - which is nothing new, I'm rather used to it by now and have come to expect it. You can bow out (un)gracefully now if you wish, Sherry - but if you continue to post, I'm going to continue to demand proof of where these services are being provided. Fair warning.

Take, for example, a Ninth Ward evacuee who waltzed to the Superdome with their, in at least one documented instance, EIGHTY NINE members of immediate family, without a bite of food, a drop of water, or even a pair of shoes for all of them. None of them, not one, had jobs, or at least jobs that they would tell the government about. They bitched, pissed, and maoned that they didn't bring the supplies that they were clearly told to bring because the government was supposed to take care of them. Post Hurricane, the government took care of them with cash, clothing (much of which ended up in dumpsters because it wasn't name brand or brand new), temporary homes, rent and utilities, health care, and foodstamps every month for a full freaking year, and NOW they're bitching because the government hasn't built them brand new homes and taken them back where they "stayed", a phrase in itself that tells you that they consider any housing temporary. What, the government will not support them completely for more than a year? Hell, it supported them completely all their lives, why not now?

Honestly? I'd far rather an entire tribe of illegals move in next door and I'd rather that my taxes go to help them, since THEY at least WANT to work.

Yes - plenty of their children are. I have three of them myself...and?

Are you going to go the, "So their CHILDREN are eligible for foodstamps" route?

So is every other US citizen in this country. If you're going to argue that side of the issue, be prepared to argue the welfare system as a whole.

Senobia,
Do you not read the newspaper or watch the news? There are always articles in the media on such things as proposition 200 in arizonia that takes away some social programs for illegals, (If they weren't getting it why would it be taken away) hospitals that are being shut down in border towns because of illegal immigrants not paying for thier own medical care. If we don't pay the hospitals will relentlessly pursue us. I am sure you know illegal women that have U.S. Born children that paid nothing (Emergency Medicaid). Illegal immigrant children that are going to public schools. There are a number of towns (pennsyvania, florida etc.) that are proposing cutting off of benefit to those not here legally. A number of state are debating whether to cut off in state tution to those here illegally. Although probably not seen as a benefit there are a large population of the illegals in our prisons, who pays for that? You can not act like you don't know that some illegals in this country are tapping in on programs designed for Legal Citizens. You are a citizen and so is your family, you pay taxes, you can't qualify for benefits because your husband is a good provider. So why are you ok with some that are here illegally getting your share? Why if these people are so hard working are they not like you and your husband and are self reliant, paying income taxes? Some tap into our social programs because they know they can, other also do because they send back a large amount of money back to mexico, so are we responsible for keeping mexico afloat? The people we are talking about aren't just low wage earners, they are welders, electricians, carpenters, business owners, etc and make very good money.

It's not so much that I'm "ok with that". It has more to do with "I understand that". You cannot know where a person is coming from if you don't know where he has been. That's why people who are far removed from any illegal immigrants latch on to these bogus statistics and these blatant lies that groups like ALIPAC put out there. Nobody ever tries to humanize illegal immigration and if it doesn't have a face, it's ok to hate it because it's nothing personal.

My husband *was* one of those people - the very same people who, the majority of America and lots on Gather, see as basically less than crap on the bottom of their shoes. Not human. Criminal. Good for nothing. A leech. A drain on everything around them. Needing to be shot on sight when they're crossing and rounded up like cattle and herded back. I've heard it all, girl. The worst thing people could have said about the illegal immigrants was too good.

We spent time together while he was still an illegal immigrant. He was still one when I married him. We didn't get anything - do you hear me, not jack. In fact, we were told that if he ever had any intention of EVER getting his residency, I should not even apply for assistance because it would be sorely counted against us in the application process.

Choosing to "do it the right way" wasn't as easy as my husband just wanting it. If it hadn't been for me, he never would have gotten his residency. I can't marry every one of them so that they can get their green cards so what do you think happens to the rest of them who have no one to petition for them? The only difference between a rich man and a pauper is opportunity. That's it. You're not born with it. You don't have luck. You don't wish it into happening. Anything that you get in life was because you were afforded the opportunity. All of them don't have that.

I don't know any illegal immigrant that doesn't pay his own way. Having something provided for you is a foreign concept to them - and me. It just doesn't happen around here. Ever. You get what you work for - and only what you work for. So if some other state besides Texas has some illegal immigrant provisions in place, we in Texas aren't aware of them.

But aside from the legality of it all, what kind of person would begrudge a human being - of any color, background, or INS status - medical care when they're sick...an education that's free for everybody else...food programs for hungry kids...an opportunity that everybody else has...so on and so forth. I just fail to see the reasoning behind a mindset like that. If ever there was a time to be ashamed of your government, that would be the time.

Isn't it ironic how even stray dogs get more sympathy and laws protecting them than a human being lacking a certain kind of card that makes him "acceptable" could ever dream of?

Senobia,
I think the problem that most have are that alot that are here illegally are being allowed to qualify for these benefits because they have no "traceable income". Many work under the table (especially in the construction field). I am very familiar with this because I work in the construction field. I am acquainted with other construction companies that pay there employees in cash. Not only is the employee getting untaxed wages but the employer makes out like a bandit, (when you employ any social security taxes or medicaid taxes taken out of the of the employees checks must be matched by the employer every quarter). So these employers are getting away with not matching these taxes. I hire workers who are here legally, I have them fill out 1-9's and call in numbers to the social security administration to make sure they match, I do this because it is required by law. My competitors pay under the table and can offer a much lower bid on jobs. I lose many jobs to my competitors, it is the penalty for doing my job right. May i add that i do have many hispanics & blacks that i employ so it is not a racial thing. We have had many struggles while my competitors reap the benefits of illegal labor. MAy i also add that this situation is not right for the illegal, they are offered no benefits from these employers and there are so many illegals they are viewed as a dime a dozen type labor. So many of these illegals with no traceable income do qualify for low income programs, their wifes are afforded emergency medicaid to have their babies. The babies do qualify for wic and foodstamps, I have never qualified for medicaid or foodstamps because I have a social security number and traceable income. You say every baby is eligible for foodstamps, but most do not qualify. I do not see where the illegals have less sympathy than "stray dogs". I have worked also at a trailer companies where many illegals were working as welders, and I thought it would be good to implement some type of health insurance program for the workers, not one illegal would sign up because they used the county clinics and county hospital emergency room for any medical care. Then again they qualify because of untracable income. You may not see it, but if you look and call your local emergengy room or county clinics and ask. I see no sympathy for people like myself that are being negatively impacted by the illegal worker. I also live in Texas outside of Houston, and this is how it impacts my life. It causes much resentment when illegals are afforded benefits not consistent with those of U.S. citizens. How will you feel when your children are ready for college and an illegal that lives next door is offered in-state tution to an out of state college and your child is not? Why is your now legal tax paying husband afforded less benefits then those here illegally that are working for this untraceable wage.

Why would they be unable to have a bon a fide business? Illegals are able to get checking accounts, home loans, this is an engineering group of people. Unfortnately, they don't have the ability to get to get an EIN number, so no taxes to be paid, just cash please. And so it goes

A what number? EIN? Do you mean an ITIN?

----------------------------------------------

What is an ITIN?
An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a nine-digit number that always begins with the number 9 and has a 7 or 8 in the fourth digit, example 9XX-7X-XXXX.
IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have U.S. tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.
Individuals must have a filing requirement and file a valid federal income tax return to receive an ITIN, unless they meet an exception.

What is an ITIN used for?
ITINs are for federal tax reporting only, and are not intended to serve any other purpose. An ITIN does not authorize work in the U.S. or provide eligibility for Social Security benefits or the Earned Income Tax Credit. ITINs are not valid identification outside the tax system.
IRS issues ITINs to help individuals comply with the U.S. tax laws, and to provide a means to efficiently process and account for tax returns and payments for those not eligible for Social Security Numbers.

Who needs an ITIN?
IRS issues ITINs to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for SSNs. A non-resident alien individual not eligible for an SSN, who is required to file a U.S. tax return only to claim a refund of tax under the provisions of a U.S. tax treaty, needs an ITIN.
Examples of individuals who need ITINs include:

Non-resident alien filing a U.S. tax return and not eligible for an SSN
U.S. resident alien (based on days present in the United States) filing a U.S. tax return and not eligible for an SSN
Dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien
Dependent or spouse of a non-resident alien visa holder
------------------------------------------------------

So, yeah - for tax purposes, they *are* able to report their earnings. As for not paying taxes out of their checks, no independant contractors do - until year's end. That's what we do. Nothing is withheld from the checks - it's a lump sum at tax time.

You keep saying they don't want to sign up for some company health thing. Why don't they want to? You assume it's to stiff somebody. Have you ever considered it might be because they're scared to? That they don't want to draw attention to themselves? That they don't understand what it is? That they have no clue what it's for? Do you have translators interpreting this stuff to them or do you shove a paper and pen at them and say "sign here"?

Carole, where are the places to sign up for benefits? You still haven't told us that yet.

You guys can say whatever you want to about illegal imigrants, but as far as I'm concerned, they are INVADERS! Anyone caught climbing over fences or employing other means to gain ILLEGEL access into this country, if it were up to me, would be SHOT ON SITE! Furthermore, I think Claymore land mines should also be used along the border on our side of the fence. Only then will the problem of illegel immigration come to a SCREECHING HALT! Also, ANYONE caught employing illegal immigrants should be arrested, tried and upon conviction, serve a minimum of 15 YEARS in a FEDERAL PENITENTIARY! I am FED UP with these UNAMERICAN LIBERALS apologizing for and excusing this lawlessness!

Round them up and send them all home with their "matricula" stapled to their foreheads. And just to prove I have some compassion, I would agree to Congress appropriating some funds for staple removers and band-aids to be sent to Mexico as humanitarian aid. Senobia, Jackie, and all their liberal friends could then go care for them in Mexico where they belong.

This discussion is very touchy and mainly because you came across very bluntly about a situation that is currently being dealt with. II from Mexico aren't the only illegals but they are getting the most attention. No one is more entitled to anything than what they worked for. From what I know you are blessed to have priviledges (like the internet) if you(a family member) are indeed an illegal. You say you are owed from the US but what exactly do you want? I know everyone can use extra cash but you have way more than most who are Americans who work solely because you married a man with principals. Reading from your previous comments you tend to get offended easily but you should have expected some harsh remarks. People say what they want regardless if they're in your face or thru written words. Now don't get me wrong I do believe that it is a crime to be here undocumented but I don't believe that it makes you less of an human because of it. We now have to learn a foreign langauge and not by choice in order to get a job that will just get you by, but if we (Americans) are to travel outside and are not fluent in their language we're basically assed out. It's not fair but that is the way the world works. Everyone is entitled to their opioions but you are making statements that are raising eyebrows. All the profainty and such isn't necessary from anyone but you're adults and I can't tell you what to do. I'm commenting in a civilized way and I hope you taken it as such. Posting this article was a good thing because you never know who a person is until you take them out of their comfort zone.

Senobia--
I agree with what your saying...you have the right to marry whoever you want..
I also get tired of hearing about all the "facts" from people who have No idea what they are talking about...people who have never known an illegal but have only known of them from the news..
people also do not realize the time and cost it takes to become a resident and eventually a citizen...
..And like you every "illegal" I know works very hard and is not on assistance..but I know plenty of able-bodied Americans who sit on the couch everyday cashin in on that goverment check..
..Also I don't know any "illegals" who are proud of the fact that they are illegal... Given the choice of being illegal and living in fear of deportation and sepration from their families..and being legal..what do you think they will chose?? Many are not eligible at this time to become legal...and sadly many were not eligible when they entered the county..why do you think so many come illegally??? Many times to get something you have to already have something..and sadly many illegals only crime was poverty

sorry lady you just dont get the point, you would have gotten all sorts of aid from the tax payers if you had just been an ILLEGAL ALIEN yourself. my father was a legal alien, so was way grandmother, they came over from Scotland, my mother and her mother were legal also, the came over from England, as for myself i had the missfortune of being born in San Francisco Ca. my family did the proper thing, they filled out all the forms and got there approval before they got here. you should campain to convert this nation into Mexico, islam and all thal other anti american stuff, maybe join the ALCU. im proud to have serviced the USA in viet-nam for 2 1/2 years when i was onlt 17- 20 years old to help keep this nation the way it has allway been and sure dont want to turn it over to people who hate the USA and our citizens just so someone from somewhere else can make America as screwed up as the place there trying to leave. why dont you and your Oldman go back to where he came from and make that place like America so illegas wont have to come here in the first place, if you need help fixxing that place, where ever it might be, go to San Francisco and ask the people there for help, they hate the rest of this nation so much, im sure they will be glad to come with you and make that place, where ever it might be, a better place to live, and then illegals will go there, where ever that place might be, instead of here

wilson, we get got his residency in 2001 (or 2 I forget which) we were under the impression you had to hold that status 10yrs. Someone in a position to know these things told me that and I never questioned it. Now, I'm hearing it's three. Maybe it changed. Maybe it was always three. But the Houston INS office told me 10 at the time.

People in Mexico need to organize and begin a REVOLT against their government rather than bringing their problems here to the USA! If it takes a Mexican civil war to accomplish that, SO BE IT! The American revolution was an armed conflict against an imperial king for the cause of establishing a free nation. The Mexican People are NO DIFFERENT! They seem, however to be afraid to stand up to their own government and fight for justice! Instead, they come up here, invade OUR country and demand our sympathy! We fought and spilled blood for OUR freedoms, but they won't. WHAT COWARDS THEY ARE!!

Amy...right on.

Mike..they don't hate. They just want to share, too. They want to do their part and be a part.

Really, Arthur? Because Dubya needs to be gone like...yesterday. Do we go to DC and overthrow him? Is it that easy? Will you lead us and show us how? *yawn*

Senobia, if I reproduce, my children, at least will become patriots! Fortunately, however, selective breeding keeps the number of your kind to a minimal.

Senobia...

I heard a DJ from Houston comment today, on an elementary school there that was having the kids pledge allegiance to the "Mexican" flag. Apparently they were all given little Mexican flags during this pledge. Do you know anything about this?

Arthur your statements are very un-American and hateful..thank god our leaders have more common sense that you! America was founded by immigrants...
I am married to an immigrant and some are many people that I know... I can't belive you would make comments de-humanizing our children in such a way
