A new twist on cinnamon rolls and a new trick I have learned..As anyone that has ever made homemade cinnimon rolls that stick to the bottom of the pan if you let them sit to long to cool..Will love this Idea.
My new trick I learned is to pinch the bottom closed on the bottom of the roll, that seals in all the yummy filling and does not stick to the bottom of the pan ...more flavor and less cleanup...: )
As for a new twist I have been adding fresh fruit as well as canned fruit rather than the usual cinn & sugar,
The different fruits could be endless and made the same old treat we love so much different
.
Apple cinnamon rolls
Apple Filling- combine in a medium sauce pan 2 large diced cooking apples,2 Tbls flour, 3/4 cup sugar,1/4 cup of butter/margarine
Cook over med- high heat..about 3 min until boils, reduce to med-low for about 10 minutes stirring constantly until thickend
Remove from heat stir in 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg *( I also add 1 tsp cloves)*
Cinnamon -sugar topping( this is to sprinkle on top just before you place in oven)
Combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon,1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. stir until well blended...
*( to me this topping was to much I have made this recipie 3 times and still have some left in a baggie,so I would suggest use in moderation I did a light sprinkle and have enough for a forth round.)*
I also have used blueberry pie filling , one of my favorites..
You can use any pre-frozen bread from the freezer,I have found that works good, or the recipie on the back of the yeast packet.for a sweet roll dough.
Here is the recipie for the dough I use :
In large bowl combine 1 cup of flour 2 undesolved yeast packets, 1 teaspoon salt.
In a pan combine 1/2 cup water,1/2 cup milk ,1/4 cup butter/marg heat until very warm ( 120 - 130)
*( If it is too hot let it cool , it will make the yeast not rise if to hot or to cold )*
Gradually add liquid to flour mixture,Beat 2 minutes with a electric mixer at med speed, scapping bowl
occasionally.
Add 3 large eggs and 1 cup of flour, beat for another 2 minutes at high speed
Stir in 3-3 1/2 cups of flour to make a soft dough...Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic. cover and let rest about 10 minutes.
This can be divided into 2- equal portions
Have you ever put something extra in rather than the same cinnamon roll..??
Love to hear some different varations of fillings that could be added..
