It's getting to be that time of year again, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and then there's Christmas as well. If you're having guests over and want the silverware or other silver pieces to shine, don't bother buying the silver polish, which isn't good for you in the first place, when you can try this and "magnetize" tarnish away, naturally.
What you need:
Aluminum Foil
Table salt, sea salt, or rock salt and baking soda.
Take your aluminum foil and cover the bottom of your sink with it, for a lot of items - for a little bit, you can use a glass pan.
Using hot water, put enough in to cover the things you wish cleaned. Put (for silverware or small items such as silver jewelry chains) about 3 inches of water, and then add 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of baking soda.
In the salty water, the aluminum foil acts as a magnet for drawing the tarnish off of the silver.
For larger items, fill hot water and use enough to cover them - add a handful of salt and one of baking soda as well.
When you take them out in a few minutes, you should be able to just dry the tarnish off. For very badly tarnished items, you may have to do this a couple of times, it's always worked for us, and hey, I think you'll probably have all you need right at home!
This is a gift to yourself :)

TJ, someday... you never know... lol
As to getting that film (boy, do I know what you're talking about) off of your glasses, I use a squirt of Dr. Bronners liquid soap/shampoo, and water and it comes right off, it's organic and doesn't harm anything. :)
