I'm sure it may be normal for some but my son started to have a peculiar scent all the time even immediately after showering. We had no way of knowing that he had a medical condition that was festering inside of him. As it turned out, he had ulcerative colitis and bacteria that formed in his colon was seeping through his pores. There are other things that can cause a different odor too. Some types of food such as garlic and spices can be the culprit. I hope you find the answer you need.
I think it's normal. I worked in day care when my son was little, then worked in children's ministry in the church for years after that. When they're young, they seem to absorb the smell of dirt or whatever they're playing with. Then when they start to mature and get to the point when it's important that they start being aware of their own cleanliness, they start smelling like spicy foods.
Years ago, I worked at a church where the custodian was a Hispanic woman known throughout the county for making the best tamales. She told me and our youth director (we both had 13 year old boys) that you can always tell when a boy is maturing and his hormones are starting to change....because they start smelling like her kitchen.
don't feed them foods that will emit scents out of their pores. ie. garlic, curry, raw onions etc... My boys only smelled of baby sweaty head/hair. when they would run outside. after ages 13 and up..then it might be B.O. in that case, teach them to use a deoderant (sp).
I think it's normal to some degree. Afterall, boys are diferent then girls. Try some of the inexpensive body sprays or deodorant soaps for men. Many products are made for young adults and pre-teens. Hope it helps.
When I walked through the sixth grade area of the school where I taught, there was definitely a heavy scent unlike the other areas. Young people's bodies are definitely internally busy. A boy's hormones cause a strong scent. These scents are meant to contribute to sexual desire by others.
At my age I have no scent. I am past sexual attraction. I experimented and found that I can go a week without a shower and have no odor whatsoever.
All these replies are interesting and things to think about. I know my daughters began having to use deodorant at a rather early age (eight and nine) and maybe your boys are maturing quickly. i think I'd ask their doctor and if he/she poo poos the idea you are concerned about make the doctor listen to you and ask him/her what the possibilities are. When a mom picks up on something like what you are describing there is a reason for it. It is called Mom's sixth sense or intuition. Get it settled for yourself.
