Kyleigh was up really late last night, so I had to "dig" her up from bed this morning to go to school. She was upset and wouldn't eat breakfast.
I had an all-day meeting so I really didn't have a chance to check up on her during the day.
When I picked her up, she was playing with her classmates. They were throwing air-filled small plastic balls on the floor. She was smiling, and said "ball" when she lifted it up to show me. She did not yell "go home" like she normally do, but she did say goodbye to the teacher and the classmates.
After I dressed her up, I was taking my time gathering her stuff. Another parent arrived to pick up his daughter, and the teacher had the door open. Kyleigh ran away from me and followed her classmate. Kyleigh then offered her Little Bee to that parent. I wasn't sure what she had in mind. Of course, the other parent wouldn't take Little Bee from her. So we left.
I asked what Kyleigh wanted for dinner. She said she wanted noodles. So we stopped by a Chinese take-out buffet. Normally I came here myself. This was the first time I took Kyleigh with. I was a little nervous and wasn't sure what she was going to do when I picked the dishes.
As soon as we went in the restaurant, Kyleigh saw the waitress and said, "Piao liang jie jie (Pretty big-sister)." The girl was very happy and the other waitresses also heard it and came over. They surrounded Kyleigh and asked her a bunch of questions, like what her name was and how old she was. Kyleigh was able to answer her own name, and I answered her age for her. I paid for the noodles and dishes, and we headed home.
She said she was hungry, so I dropped everything and quickly got the noodles prepared for her (I cut them in short pieces, so she could easily scoop them up with her spoon). She started eating, and was doing pretty well.
It would have been fine if I had just kept my mouth shut. I was still feeling surprised that she seemed in such a good mood when I picked her up from the day care. So I asked her how school was today. I was expecting she would tell me something positive about school.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. Kyleigh immediately went into a resistance mode, and refused to eat any more. I tried to feed her, but that just made it worse. She was crying in the high chair, and rolling on the floor. I was stressed out because she had only eaten a few bites, and I knew she was hungry. I kept offering food to her, but she never took any. So again, she skipped dinner tonight for the wrong reason.
Later my mom called and talked to Kyleigh. My mom was really excited because she could have a meaningful dialog with Kyleigh. Kyleigh also said, "Xin nian kuai le (Happy New Year)" to Grandma and Uncle Hsung, which made them really happy. (Kyleigh already did this on Chinese New Year's Day.) There was sound of the fireworks coming from the phone in my mom's background. It is a shame that Kyleigh couldn't be there to enjoy a traditional Chinese New Year celebration.
Kyleigh had a fun evening (despite me asking her about the school to upset her), and fell asleep around midnight. She had a fever again, which is the 5th consecutive night. I really hope the new medicine will kick in sooner and get rid of her ear infection.
