Been there, done that. The best results we've had is with a "moving sale", or with community yard sales.

I saw a woman on CNN yesterday who put a sign in her yard that said, "Need Money for Gas Yard Sale."

Guess you need to reach out to the people with clever marketing these days...

I've generally found that unless you have a decent amount of stuff out, including some larger items like weight benches, furniture, etc., not that many people will stop.

My neighbor down the street had a yard sale last month. It was pretty slow on Saturday so she sent her kid around to ask the rest of us to contribute if we wanted. At some point she reached enough junk mass so that drive-bys turned into browsers. I wish I knew what the magic number is...I think I know what it looks like.

Yeah it's all in what is visible from the road as well as the prices once you get there. For example, I won't pay more than a buck for jeans at a yard sale - even if they've never been worn.

With gas prices less people are spending time just driving around looking for yard sales.

You should try having the sale again. There were days when I would sell every baby item I put out and others when not a thing sold.

My one solo yard sale did horribly. I later did a multiple family yard sale and that went much better...we advertised in the papers and put up signs. I'm sorry you didn't have any luck :(

Last garage sale I had didn't go as well either. But it was spur of the moment and wasn't advertised..My fault..I tried to freecycle it afterwards but I had more no shows than anything. So, I just the stuff out in the trash....It than got picked up before the trashman showed...Go figure.

That sucks.. strange that baby stuff didnt go, unless you were asking too much money for stuff. I agree that a lot of people will slow down and look at a sale, and if there's not enough stuff or nothing that grabs the attention right away, they just drive away. Maybe you should try Craigslist if you really want to sell the stuff.. or if you just want to get rid of stuff to make room, you can freecycle it. or try a consignment shop or kids resale shop. They will sometimes buy stuff.
