In August I had rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder, one of the reasons I haven't been very active here on Gather since it's been hard to type or use the computer with just one arm..and the left one at that..I am a righty!
Anyway, after the surgery I found it difficult to sleep in my bed especially since I was wearing a sling for 3 weeks and my arm would drop to my side causing pain when I was asleep....I decided to try sleeping on my sofa since it has really conforable cushions to sit on as well as the back and the armrests....I propped a pillow near the back, rested my arm on that pillow and slept pretty well because the pillow didn't shift around while I was asleep... I never was a back sleeper but I had no choice.
Weeks passed, the sling came off and I still found it comfortable to rest that arm on the pillow, (when my arm dangles it is pretty painful and the pillow prevents that dangling), the whole position gives me a great secure feeling since the back of the sofa prevents the pillow from slipping.
I also liked the fact that I could watch TV late into the night without anyone, (Hubby), asking me to lower the sound on the TV or shut it off...
Recently the dear sweet man wanted to know when I was coming back to bed...so that night I brought all my pillows upstairs and settled in for what I hoped would be a good nights sleep...
Well, it really wasn't as good as I had hoped since all night I was fighting with the pillow to stay up and struggling to keep our comforter on me as Hubby would pull it whenever he turned over and I would have to pull it back with my bad arm...it was a tug of war that I never realized we went through...I went back to the couch at 4:00 A.M.
I'm still there but I really would like to go back to my bed and our comfortable new mattress...just tonight brought my pillows and book back upstairs.
So funny thing, tonight on the 6:30 oclock news we heard a report that it's been found that many women do not like to sleep with their partners, 37% canadian and 23% American women to be exact, stated that they sleep better alone....that unsuspecting couples don't really realize how much they keep their partners awake with the noises they make and the moving around they do...
I had told my husband repeatidly that I was so surprised at how good I was sleeping on the couch, even though there is less room for me to stretch out...actually no issue since I can't turn over on my right side yet or sleep on my stomach, which used to be my preferred sleeping position.
Now I know, I am one of those women...but, that is going to have to change eventually I realize that.... when my hubby left to play poker just now with his buddies he asked me where he will find me when he comes home... I don't know yet what the answer will be but I guess I will give it another go..:)

When I figured this out even our dog stopped getting up to investigate the little noises thus waking us up with the ticky tack of her claws on the hardwood. She sleeps thru the night. Why not, we weaned her from her bros and sis' witha ticking clock, and hot water bottle under her blanket in the box she first slept in.
Now if I could just stop the wife from elbowing me and saying 'fetch' to go get the morning paper.
LOL
now go read my story "Coffee Monkey"
(Barbara, hope your arm is feeling better!)
Help my wife become a published author -
please read and rate her Romance entry on Gather!
A Scandalous Overture
James makes a great point about the expected noise. I have two loud ticking clocks that annoy others, but I love them, especially while I'm going to sleep.
Not the one's I've come in contact with.
thanks all...I'd forgotten what a great community Gather is...:)
However, during allergy season, my hubby's snoring is so bad sometimes I'm afraid I'll wake up deaf. I just roll him over onto his left side to cut down on his lawnmower engine of a snore.
King size works best oh and acctully 3 dogs is even better ;)
Many people have separate bedrroms so that they get maximum sleep and they make "dates" for sex. It could be a plan.
And couldn't sleep at all with a tv on. (Shudder!) The closer to total dark and total silence, the better for me!
