I never did like wearing black to a party (Gather), its just so depressing and congers up feelings of someone dying! But that is not why I have chosen not to wear black to Gather!
I really think Gather has alot of great things going for it
Gather has managed to create a community where weekend writers, artists, anyone really!!!, can come and present their work! Just check out some of the great articles by Kevin V. for all the possibilities available here on Gather!!
Gather does a great job of featuring those individuals who are passionate about making Gather a wonderful community for all! From the first chapter's competition, to the essentials groups, and the upcoming ambassadors program, Gather has been really trying to improve the user experience recently! Way to go Gather!!!
Yes, there may be a small population of authors who whine and complain when they are not featured, spamming the site with their disappointment via articles designed to try clog the site, but they are a small minority. Overall Gather consists of a wide diversity of individuals who share everything from great literature, art, recipes, and online coupons. While not everyone may enjoy what other's publish, Gather had the great idea of rewarding those individuals who are read the most (and thus publishing what other's want) via Gather points!! Its a great way to encourage the formation of a great community!!
So before you read some of the degrading article about Gather and the members on Gather, ask yourself these questions!!
If Gather is so flawed, why do the people complaining about Gather log in daily???

If Gather is so terrible and full of so many problems, why don't the serious authors (those who proclaim their work is so great that its not even worthy of Gather...these types... not the actual good writers) who complain about the site daily continue to freely log in every day??? (yes, repeat of question one...this is a very important point to be addressed!!!)

if I don't like something I just avoid it!! I don't keep trying to encounter it day after day after day after.....LOL...you get the idea!!
Perhaps some of those who whine the loudest are not complainers, but instead care enough about the site to see it resolve serious problems.

I would just say that I have seen the type of behavior you describe more with the "self-titled serious authors" than with a few kids boosting their point totals
The kids quickly get bored or move one, but some of the members who I refer to as "self-titled serious authors" have been on here for years!!! yes years!! and just complain instead of posting quality content.
If they trutly cared for the site, why would they spam Gather 24-7 with "poop articles"??? They would not! There are quite a few great writers on Gather (no manes will be given) who concentrate on their writing and commenting, rather than publish daily articles about how bad Gather is!!!
In my mind, complaining does not equal caring!
I do respect your viewpoint, but from what I have seen, the complainers will gang up on anyone who thinks differently ((just watch the rating on this article - an article with noting more than one's viewpoint!! for proof)

It takes all kinds to run a railroad. I myself have posted a few negative articles on gather. However, I would venture to say that less than 2 percent of my content tossed onto this site has been of a negative nature toward Gather. Some have disagreed with some of my political commentary, especially on the topic of illegals, but based on some of the comments I have recieved here, based on some of the friendships I have developed on this site, I'd say at least some of what I put up onto the groups has some merit to it...IE, was chosen as a finalist in the Starbucks Earth Watch contest, though I requested my entry be removed in the name of making a political statement about said contest. Does that make me a complainer?
You would be right iif I was proclaming I was a great writer (one of the best on Gather in fact that every should worship), and that others were constantly publishing inferior quality to my work which should be featured and on the top of every list on Gather!!
But since I have never done those things your hypocrite comment makes no sense!!
I have always loved Gather because its free and open!! unlike the vision the Gather gripers want to impose!!!

But if you posted an ariticle a day for over 6 months about how bad Gather is, and kept logging in every day, multiple times a day, and at times at 3:00 am in the morning like some of the "gripers" I would most likely say yes!
I am not talking about negative article in general, Im talking about negative articles about Gather. If I hated Gather, I would write one article about it, then leave! I would not write an article a day about it, and then log into gather multiple times a day for years!!!
Yes, I came to Gather for similar reasons (pass time at work, I watch a gym)
As soon as I posted a modeling pic, I was pursued like crazy by a group of GNNers.
My articles were constantly flagged, pics flagged, rated low, and complained about for nothing more than being me!!!
After that, I decided to stand up for freedom of choice on Gather!
Why should we all conform to one idea of what Gather is???
I hope you all choose to do the same!!!
Amber.. we shouldn't! Everyone has a reason for being here, a different want of gather and what they will use it for. That's what makes this community so diverse. Of course you will have your fair share of negativity, but noone is forcing you to read them.

The gipers take the exact opposite stance..that being...if you don't publish what they want - they will make fun of you, harass and gang up on you, and write endless article upon article about your content (and even then start posting spam articles about "poop" literally poop!!!!!!!! to protest???..???...!!!) because its not what they want on Gather...
