This is the last month when my husband can pick the next station. For those of you who don't know, my husband is in the Navy and we have been living separately for 4 years. We have a baby on the way and we really wish that he would be able to stay at home with me and the baby for the next 4 years.
The way it works is that he can pick a few choices from a list of open positions all over the US and overseas, but it is not guaranteed that he will get his first choice. He has had 3 windows of opportunities in the past 3 months, but every time there was always something wrong (e.g., system down, couldn't get a hold of the detailer, etc), so he has not been able to pick a position yet. This time (the deadline is this Friday) is his last chance. If he still can't put his order through, then he will be randomly assigned to anywhere in the world.
This morning he finally had the list of current openings printed out. We were so excited to see that there is an opening just 25 miles away from my house. However, he has been trying to call the detailer all morning and can't get a hold of him. Besides, even if he tells the detailer of his preference, it is still not guaranteed that we will get this position.
So I am really keeping my fingers crossed, and I ask you to please wish us luck. If he can get this position, he will be able to come home every night and we will be able to raise our girl together. This position is open to the entire Navy personnel, so the chance is slim. But I believe in positive thinking, and I whispered to our baby and hope she can work some of her magic to make this happen. Maybe we will get it.

♪Joanne - The other choice would be in Norfolk, VA, which is where he is right now. It is about 200 miles away, but it would still be better than any other choice because of his career advancement, and he already has a place to stay, so there will not be any moving involved.
My husband will continue calling him this afternoon.....
