When I was about fifteen years old I did some radio and TV repair. I worked at it more or less part time as I was still in school. I did not have a lot of business but any income was a plus. Most of my business came from word of mouth. People I new telling all of their friends. My father knew a lot of people and told them.
I believe that someone at one of the fire stations which was located in a mostly residential section had heard of me either through my father of from a neighbor who was a fireman. One day I got a call to check out their TV set.
When I was checking the TV something got all of the firemen exited. I heard expressions like; "Here she comes;" and "Come on before she gets here." I could not imagine who or what would have all of these men so excited. I think every man in the station went to the front.
I needed a tool out of my station wagon which I had left parked out front. My vehicle was parked not ten feet from where the firemen were standing around. My mind was on the TV I was working on and I paid no attention to what was around. I heard a "Hello Billy:' in a female voice and looked up and Magda was walking by. I looked up, waved and said "Hi, Magda" and went on about my business.
Magda was a friend of a girl I was dating and we had double dated a few times. Magda was one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. She had long black hair, dark eyes and a face that would put ninety nine percent of girls to shame. I would say her body was as close to being what a man dreams about as you will ever find. If I had not been dating a good friend of hers I would definitely have been chasing her.
It was not until I had started back into the station and realized that some of the men were giving me an odd look that I realized what was going on. Magda had passed by wearing short shorts and a tight t-shirt. She was so good looking that when one of the firemen saw her coming from a block off, he called the rest of the men out to look at her. She lived not far from the station and walked by every now and then and it was an occasion for the men.
Now this gorgeous woman had walked by, one who most of the men would have loved to even have chance to talk to, and here was this kid who was working on the TV and it seemed to mean nothing to him to have this dream boat speak to him. He just waved and spoke and turned his back to her.
The only thing said to me about her was one of the men asked me who it was. I noticed that all of the men were listening close for my answer. I said; "Just a friend;" and continued walking.
Now you talking about getting a big head. Here were all these big, good looking firemen, heroes of the community so to speak, looking this kid, me, as if I was a hero. I was one kid who was walking on cloud nine from the apparent admiration of these men that I admired.
