The ABC World Trade Center show

Did anyone watch? What did you think?

I did notice that apparantly the protest about the show and subsequent petition might have done some good...The first night there was 20 minutes cut out and last night there seemed to be about the same amount of time missing.. Though they did seem to focus on how screwed up the major investigation was and how the FBI, the CIA and all other agencies were innot working together..How stupid they all looked and the missed opportunities to catch the terrorists...That was so frustrating to watch..

I did think the show was very well made, produced, and photographed..The special effects were outstanding..as was the acting..and when the towers collapsed, spellbinding footage.

I also didn't think they put the whole blame on Clinton as was feared...I wanted to hit Madeline Albright though!

They did have a spoiler in the beginning stating that some of the show was fictionalized for the enhancement of the story..

Barbara, I would agree it was well done, partisanship aside. From what I read, it was only one minute and a few seconds that were deleted, not a full twenty minutes, but that is second hand info.

I took a pass on watching it. We went to dinner then walked up to the beach and had a very relaxing evening together instead.

I knew in advance that there was an agenda. There was a reason the hijackers were not stopped.

It would have just pissed me off... and I was already spitting bullets after allll daaaay looong about the crap on every freakin channel. Yes. A leisurely beach stroll was just what the Doc ordered.
I didn't see this and I am not sure if I want to. So much, so soon.

Thomas, I don't know but the show ended Sunday night at 20 minutes to 11...I've never seen any show do that before...Hard to tell last night though with the speech Bush made..But it did end earlier than the TV guide has printed...who knows..

I think Dietmar missed the subtlety of your post, that this was indeed fictionalized... but a very pretty fiction. heh... and that the petitioning did seem to help a little bit.

I still find myself having a difficult time watching anything relating to 9/11 (I was in NYC at the time...luckily not right down there, but too close for my own comfort).

They stated it was a docudrama, I think the fictional parts were when they showed the scenes on the plane..after, all how could they actually know how it went down..

And Mark, we are all entitled to our opinions about the direction and camera work...I liked the artzy fartzy look of it...What bothered me the most was when they had those scenes in what was supposed to be the camps of the terrorists, all the noise that went on there, the music and all that..I supposed that was more of the fictional stuff...

But I heard an interview with Harvey Kietel where he stated how he checked on all the facts relating to the character he played, as did Mark Walberg....I know this is a hard topic for many people who have divergent opinions but I am entitled to mine....

Barbara,

We watched Sunday nights broadcast and thought it very well done. It really upset me.

However, we didn't get to see last nights. Perhaps that was a good thing.

I believe the dialogue between the characters is where they took some liberties and had to label it as a docudrama. Of course, they don't know what was said in privacy between people who lived it. The premise of the whole movie was to point out the inadequecies of our CIA and FBI working together along with those in the White House, both sides. I think it was meant to re-establish those feelings we had as a nation that day five years ago when we watched those planes fly into the twin towers, and to keep our resolve strong to never let it happen again. The intent of the movie was not wrong as far as I'm concerned, we need to be reminded of that day, even if it is uncomfortable for us to face up to. The extremists hate us and they are not giving up that easily. We must remain a unified nation in the war on terror. To turn tail and run and hide, well, that is just asking for annihilation on our part.

Turn tail and run and hide? Excuse me? Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism! NOTHING. That is not where the terrorists were from...

I didn't watch it. I watched the 911 documentary that aired on PBS at the same time. It had some of the people that actually were there.
I have nothing against ABC or their rights to view it. It just wasn't for me. I tuned in for about 5minutes, decided it was kinda cheesy, clicked back to PBS.
But hey, if you could watch it, good for you.

well, it was a 6 hour commitment to TV and the fact that they didn't air commercials was an added incentive..The pace of the movie was really great and the time flew by..

I saw that documentary on PBS once and another about some French film makers who were on the spot...That was one of the best I've ever seen..

I didn't see it and wasn't interested in seeing it (for the same reasons Lori didn't), but I'm glad the disclaimer was there. Some people will still believe it word for word -- but then, some people also believe that TV shows are real people -- but at least intelligent people wouldn't be misled into thinking it was 100% fact.
