In the 70's I was always bugging my mother for a book or comic book and many times, I got a Batman comic. I was also one of the kids watching Adam West and Burt Ward on the old 60's series of Batman. "Crash!" "Bam!" "oof!" filled my tv screen anytime they were on tv for ages. Add a towel and a safety pin and I was all over the place during the fight scenes. Couches and tables were my buildings and band-aids got a steady income from my injuries.
In my teens I still occasionally picked up a Batman comic and from time to time for laughs (or boredom) I would watch the old tv show. By 1989 I had pretty much moved on from Batman and into music since I was starting out as a DJ on the radio at that point in time but one night at the movies I saw a trailer for the new Batman movie and seeing Jack Nicholson playing the joker made me want to see it. Of course for me, I expected the Jack Nicholson I saw in The Shining. I never was fond of Michael Keaton playing Batman. I just couldn't get how him playing Jack in Mr. Mom, Johnny Kelly in Johnny Dangerously, or Beatle Juice could lead to him being The Dark Knight. Kim Basinger might have been this movies saving grace for me. Somehow she reminded me of Rebecca De Mornay so she was hot in my eyes. I also liked her in Blind Date with Bruce Willis.
Opening Night was June 23, 1989 and while I wasnt there for that show I saw it within a week of release. For a while after that "Bat Dance was all over the airwaves and thank goodness the radio station I would work for refused to play that type of music because I honestly hate that song and that version of Prince. I still dont care for Keaton in the role but he wasnt bad. I just didnt like him as the choice. Nicholson was ok. Again not my favorite. Basinger however...wow.. I dont know how good her acting was but yum! She was hot.

I remember going to see that movie. I had a friend that had a crush on Micheal Keaton
I'm not sure if I've even seen that movie. My sister went through a phase where she was obsessed with Batman, but that was just when Batman and Robin came out and she thought they were both hot. ;) I think it's the only one of those that I've seen more than once. Well, and the prequels. My husband really likes them.
Clint Eastwood would have been the best for the part and series
I couldnt have seen him doing it unless it was in the late 60's or early 70's. He had a great on screen persona but he always seemed to be old to me. Honestly i wish they had used an unknown. Its too easy to stereotype someone such as keaton or Kilmer.
I didnt care for Kilmer as Batman either. I still had him in my head as the guy from real Genius and Top Secret. The Doors and Tombstone helped him break the mold he was in but not enough in my opinion.
I guess in all fairness The batman movies prior to the Christian Bale Batman were intended to be a bit campy but I was into the comics more than the Tv batman so I wanted more of the Dark Knight Batman. I have to say I like christian bale in the role the best out of all of them.
I'm in a minority I'm sure. I haven't seen any of the Batman movies.
I remember seeing the movie. By coincidence I just saw the latest Batman movie and didn't like it. Hoever I do agree for those that are true fans of the Dark Night series that Heath Ledger played the Joker perfectly.
I remember going to see it at the show it was just ok for me
I liked Keaton okay as Batman (surprisingly because I didn't expect to either). Who do you like as Batman? Just curious. Though I love watching George Clooney, I couldn't bear to watch him as batman. I htought those middle Batman movies until Christian Bale were too silly.
My husband loves Batman and has sparked the interest in our boys.
I thought Jack Nicholson was hilarious. Honestly, it was only because of him that I watched it. Haven't seen any of the other Batman movies after it.
I liked Keaton and kilmer, alright. Clooney was good, but I'm not a big fan of Bale. I liked Nicholson as the Joker, though.
