In 1985 The outfield released an album called Play Deep spurring some hit songs, most notably "Your love" or as some people remember it "The Josie's on a vacation far away" Song. I heard it on the radio and while enjoying it never heard much about the band as was the habit in the 80s. So many bands came out in the 80s that many became one hit wonders and faded into oblivion. The Outfield however refused to go out like that.
1987 the release of Bangin would bring me into the list of fans the band had developed and still has to this day. 12 albums later (not to mention being included on 3 movie soundtracks and a games soundtrack) fans of this band are some of the most loyal fans a band could have. With the internet as our weapon we spread the word to the fans and the band that we still loved them and wanted more. 1998 brought us "It Ain't Over" and a tour that the most faithful had been waiting on a long time. It was actually the year I finally was able to see the band live for the first time. It was unbelievable! John and Tony along with the new drummer at the time Simon would wow fans with old and new music, their gracious attitude, and their willingness to take the time to talk and pose with fans for pictures.
Sadly due to illness in the band, they have been out in the spotlight and news on their website has slowed to a trickle. As A fan and a person that calls them One of his 2 favorite bands I feel it is my responsibility to keep things going by spreading the word that The Outfield is still around and playing some of the best music you'v both heard and never heard.
Currently they are working on new material and hopefully soon we will get more from the band. They can be found at:
