What makes a brat a real brat, you ask. Is it just a bad attitude? Or bad behavior? Or a combination of both mixed with nagging, irritating little personality traits that leave you pulling out your hair? One thing's for sure: They're all tiny rebels-without-a-cause who want it their way and want it NOW.
Behold the top five brats from 1980s sitcoms.
5) David Faustino: Bud / Married... With Children. The kind of kid who makes couples think twice about having kids, Bud was about as bratty as they come. Snarky and obnoxious, he used his intelligence as a sort of evil power over others. Scheming gets old after a while, folks.
4) Jeremy Miller: Ben / Growing Pains. Ben was another troublemaker. He may not have meant any harm, but you don't have to have bad intentions to be bratty. And sorry, but not cute enough to pull off the 'innocent troublemaker' routine, especially with Kirk Cameron as playing the older brother. 'Nuff said.
3) Brice Beckham: Wesley / Mr. Belvedere. Wesley was the epitome of the ill-behaved kid. It wasn't so much his attitude that was the problem: It was his personality. He was constantly in trouble, and constantly trying to worm his way out of trouble. His bad behavior grated on the nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard. Besides, anyone who thrived on giving Mr. Belvedere a hard time is a jerk.
2) Raven-Symone: Olivia / The Cosby Show. I know, I know. Some people thought Olivia was adorable. But she annoyed me to no end. She was manipulative. She was coy. She whined or cried if she didn't get her way. And she misused her cuteness to do all of these things. She may not have shown up on the show until 1989, but she definitely holds a secure place on this list.
1) Emily Schulman: Harriet / Small Wonder. Two things made Harriet, next door neighbor of the Lawson family, a truly heinous character: One was her naturally nosy nature (clearly inherited from her equally irritating mother), the other was the snotty, know-it-all tone of voice she always used. And the pigtails. Oh, the pigtails. She may not have been from a well-known show, but her brattiness was unparalleled by her 80s peers.
Honorable mention:
Keisha Knight-Pulliam: Rudy / The Cosby Show. Rudy had decidedly bratty moments as a young child. The way she told Kenny that his name was 'Buuuuuud' may have been cute to some, but it was way over the top to me. She's not on the main list because Olivia was more annoying, and I don't want to double-dip on brats from the same show.
