Why I like the 80's so much

Madonna!!! And how about Michael Jackson? I know he's considered a fruit-loop now but, I STILL enjoy his music and his voice...

The eighties were definately interesting. I was born in '76, so, I was rather young in the eighties. A lot of things that I liked in this decade were centered around that fact...I loved the old cartoons like Care Bears, Rainbow Bright, Jem and The Holograms, Pac Man (the toon) and many more. As for Music, I was totally crazy over Madonna ( I bought my first cassette of her when I was 6 years old! ..the "Like A Virgin" cassette...lol), Cyndi Lauper and a few more. I also enjoyed Atari and the games like Galaga,Pac Man and River Raid...movies? I was into "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Flight Of The Navigator", "E.T", "Space Camp" and many more. That is all I can think of right now...thanks for sharing!

Yeah I liked Micheal Jackson's Music and madonna's and I still do and CindY Lauper and and The movie Girls just want to have fun my sister drove me crazy watching it over and over but it was a great movieGreat reminders from both of you thank you.

When I look back at the music videos of the eighties, I think to myself, man were we lame back then. The big hair, the glam rock. I almost squirm in my chair when I watch them today. But back then, it was the coolest. I remember when my mom brought home Michael Jacksons "Thriller" video. We thought that was the neatest thing. My twin sister actually had nightmares. What a boob. I remember when MTV first launched. On weekends we would stay with my dad (my folks divorced), and watch it. I remember watching Adam Curry, (remember him?) do the top 20 countdown. "We built this city (on rock and roll) played over and over and over. When your 10 or 11, repetition doesn't matter. We would watch it again and again and again. As I grew older and my musical genre preferences changed, I look at the eighties music and cringe. I can't stand it now, (with a few exceptions). The first album I ever bought was a vinyl called Hot Tracks. It had an illustration of a musical train charging down a guitar neck railroad track. It had Bryan Adams, Rick Springfield, Mr. Roboto, Def Leppard etc etc. Once I graduated to cassette tapes, my first album was Men at Work, Business as Usual. Seems like ages ago. Wow, I'm getting old. Good topic!

yeah I admit looking at some of these videos now they were really out there.I mean like devo and Styxx.Men at work was cool but some of these videos yeah they were strange back then they were cool.I am getting old too.lol

Very nice article about the 80's. It was a cool decade all the way around. I enjoy listening to my old records from the 80s almost all the time. Its fun to look back.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the 80's! Still can't get enough of the music. My faves were REO Speedwagon,Chicago,Brian Adams, Police, Air Supply,Journey,Men at Work...oh man there are sooo many more! My 13 year-old daughter just went to an 80's themed birthday party last week...while figuring out what to wear, I told her I had an REO Speedwagon bandana...naturally she said 'who's that?' geesh, I have been neglecting her,haven't I? lol I remember in High School,we actually got out of class to watch the premiere of Micheal Jackson's Thriller. How cool was that?! Any one for a vegemite sandwich? No???? Me neither! Great Article! I could go on and on, but I'll leave room for someone else to join the discussion.

My first cassette was Men at Work, too! I listened so much to it that I wore out that tape. I still love the songs from Tears for Fears and I would still stand out all night in the rain to see U2 (but only if they didn't play anything after, oh, 1990). And movies? The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink (whatever happened to Molly Ringwald?), St. Elmo's Fire.

I'm not sure if it was in the 80's but I remember when we got the game Frogger for our kids. When the kids went to school I got the game and played it until my thumb was so sore I couldn't use it for days! I think it must have been somewhere around 1984?

yeah It was frogger in the 80's I loved that game and Chicago and moddy blues and th movies St.Elmo's fire,Pretty in pink I wonder about Molly Ringwald myself.Well actually I saw her in a eposide off of the medium that plays on lthe lifetime channel graet show.

yes it was.I loved my atari in the early 80's.space invaders,pacman,frogger all of those and when nintendo came out that was even better.

Thank goodness I had some music from Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, REM, and U2 in the 80's! I liked MTV at first, but I'm also glad that I had 2+decades to hear music WITHOUT somebody's idea of a video that went with it.

I graduated HS in 1983 so I'm well acquainted w/ the '80's. It's the soundtrack to my life and I still get nostalgic when I watch VH1 Classic. Most of the songs I hear now, I can't not see the videos in my head when I hear them. Thomas Dolby, The Cars, Duran Duran,Peter Gabriel, etc.

Yeah I watch that alot myself vh1 classic.I like that better then mtv or any of the other music channels.

I have both good and bad memories from the 80's. I graduated in 1980 and got married in 1981 to a man 10 years older than me. I spent the next 5 years miserable. Very sad and lonely. After the divorce I ended up meeting my current husband and he was a great addition to my life. With all of that going on, I have a hard time which songs and movies came out of the 80's. LOL

Yeah I had good times in the 80s and some bad myself. I was a kid and a teenager in the 80s. So I had some good times and some bad times Sandra.I liked and still like a lot of the music from the 80s and some movies. I am sorry you had a rough marriage. I got married in 2004 but it also ended in 2004 so it was a wasted marriage.
