Are you what you wanted to be when you grew up?

sort of, i'm a mom but there are other tings I want to get done, so i guess i'm not completely grown up yet

I always wanted to be a teacher or an actress. Well I'm completing my education degree and I'm participating in community theater so I can say yes and that is something I'm thankful for!

At different times I wanted to be a ballerina, private detective, olympic diver and lawyer. Only got close to the last one.

Not at all! The only thing I ever really wanted to be was the mother of several children. Cancer stole that option from me, but adoption and fostering brought me many - 28, in fact!
Then I wanted to be a journalist, and I became just that, including leadership in several professional organizations and quite a level of esteem for my work. I discovered I didn't like it. Sticking my nose into others' business, where it was unwelcome, just turned me off.
When I said teaching was a stupid career to waste a life with, I lost a bet that made me substitute for a month. By the second day, I was hooked. I'm now in my 42nd year as a teacher, and I LOVE it! I guess I did grow up to be what I wanted to be; I just didn't know that was what I wanted!

Sorry that cancer stole your option - but look at all the children that you are making an impact on! Isn't it great to love your job? Good for you and thank you for teaching our FUTURE.

Yes, I agree

We don't earn enough to do it without loving it! My students and I have had a mutual love affair for more than four decades, and I don't mean any of that junk that ends up in the news!

This will show my age....but I wanted to be a designer for albums. Or a special effect make up artist.
But I am happy with what I am doing now. And I can honestly say I love my job. (Transfer Advisor) I also wanted to be a "mom" but....that didn't happened. BUT! I do have a stepson and two beautiful granddaughters. And ONE WONDERFUL, HANDSOME, GORGEOUS, LOVING HUSBAND! Hmmm....I DO HAVE IT GREAT! Wouldn't change anything in the world.

I never thought much of the future as a kid.
I have done what I wanted to do, at the time. Heck life is not over yet!!
Who knows what is going to happen tomorrow, or next week, or even a hour from now?
Living in the present always done good for me.

Though I new when I hit 20 it would be a turning point, and it was. 40 was another turning point. If I make it past 60 I will call myself lucky!! As it is now, with the world the way it is, and other such things - I do not want to be old in our society. Old is of course 80 on up. The elderly are the truly discarded members of our society.

For a long time I wanted to be a teacher, then in high school I wanted to be a journalist or photo journalist. Now I stay at home with my kiddos and I have no idea what I'm going to do when they start school and I go back to work!

Well, I remember balancing a baby and jumping over toys (there's the ballerina part) and all the homework help (there's the teacher part)

I have other dreams, too. Artist and writer... I do the latter more than the former, and IMO am far better at the later as well.

I am partly what I wanted to be, I think. I always wanted to be a mom, I accomplished that with three beautiful wonderful girls, and I am now a nana to a wonderful grandson. But I can remember always wanting to be a teacher of sign language. I'm not deaf but I wanted to teach the deaf how to communicate with others. I LOVED watching people sign and I couldn't wait to learn. I never persued this dream.
Over time I found that I loved to help people and I wanted to learn to be a therapist. Someone that could reach out and help people, unfortunately due to happenings in my life I never accomplished this dream either.
Life isn't over yet, but I do think I am getting too old to accomplish these things. One out of three is great! and I am soo greatful that I have what I have!!

You're never too old

I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals so much. But, I never outgrew my severe allergies to most animals. I also wanted to be a writer, which I actually became, briefly, but now don't really like the way I write all that much. I wanted to be a librarian and artist, too, and I am doing that right now.

Kinda sorta...I wanted to be a wife and mom...I wanted more than 1 child and still do but I can't bare another loss emotionally so I'm enjoying the 1 child I have. I wanted to be a teacher and I home school so in a way yes...I also wanted to be a writer and even though I don't get paid, I do still occasionally write..Now, we should really get to work on that beach house dream...or living on the road..

not really, I first wanted to be a nun, my mom freaked when I told her this when I was about 9, and then I wanted to be a vet.. did become a nurse

Aside from being a mother (which I've always wanted to be), I did not become what I wanted to be professionally. I wanted to be a DJ. I did do it for a short while at college but never did it professionally. I worked in publishing and in advertising though.

I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals so much, the closest I got to that is having my own animals.
